Exclamation SMG gear delay

Hi,everyone I'm brand new to this forum.I have a e46 m3 59k SMG and the problem I have is every time I change gears there's a 5sec delay in between each gear if I try to accelarate in between the delay the car revs up because the pump is holding the clutch in then about 5sec later it dumps the clutch once I'm in gear there's no clutch slip but the Stealer says its the clutch I went on answers.com and the answer I got was its either the smg pump or smg ecu has failed can someone help thanks.

You're thinking that we're going to be smarter than the factory trained mechanics at the dealer? Hmmm...
I don't have SMG, but I can search the Googles.

My professional diagnosis is you need an SMG recalibration. Or maybe it needs a reset. Or maybe an SMG pump. Or maybe a new clutch.

Maybe try taking it to an independant BMW mechanic, not the dealer?

The dealer tried to recalibrate also reflash and can not do it.Once the car is in gear it pulls strong with no slip that's why I don't believe what they saying and they not really sure and I see there hustle throw parts at the problem until its fixed.

Difficult gear engagement is a sign that the clutch is going. To test on a manual car, try to put it in gear. If it won't go in, maintain pressure trying to put it in gear, and turn off the engine with your left hand. If it then goes into gear, your clutch is the issue. (I just learned this one from my independent BMW mechanic yesterday).

As for how to test that on SMG? No idea...

What I really would like to find out is why the SMG hold the clutch in for five seconds before dumping the clutch in every gear? I've rolled the dice and ordered a smg ecu from eBay to see if it does anything.

The dealer said it was the clutch I refuse to take that for a answer so I ordered a SMG ECU swaped it out and its fixed it was that easy.

Hey 101, can you submit more info about what you did, where you ordered the ECU etc.

I have the SMG transmission as well. It runs great to date, but the more info that's out there the better.

Thanks in advance!
