LCM Light Control Module Help???

Hello all, I've got a 2003 E39 525i. I think my LCM is bad based on the posts that I'm seeing out there. My left front headlight and right rear taillight stay on even with the key. I also have no turn signals. I started having this problem a week ago but I reset my computer, unhooked my battery and left it sit for two days. After 2 days I rehooked up the battery and it was back to normal.............until my wife woke me this morning telling me my lights were on in the care

I have now pulled my LCM but when I took it apart, it looks NOTHING like the pre-2001. Anybody got any suggestions? I guess since I can't replace those (2) modules, as suggested in earlier post, I'm stuck buying a brand new one?

Any help would be much appreciated!!!

Why can't you buy it used? I have swapped them from car to car without a problem.

Did you have the swapped units recoded to the car? If not, how did you avoid illuminating the odometer manipulation dot?

Yes, I would have to reprogram them. One one occasion, the customer didn't care if his manipulation dot came up he just wanted the car fixed as cheap as possible. Sure enough, the high beam stopped acting up, and it started working again but the little light came on. Even if you buy the LCM new, you will still have to reprogram it, since it is not specific to any car. When they are new, they are blank, and need to be programmed from scratch. Used, they will work, but they will have the dot come on if you don't align it to your car.

Hello All, thanks for the replies. Here's what I did. I found a used unit, it was out of the same year car but had on the information sticker that it was an LCM lll. My old one was an LCM 4. Since they sold me this one for $75 and a new one from my local dealer was $600 I took it. It seems to work fine. Everything is back on but YES, I do have the little light on but I'm alright with that. The car has 158k on it and I'll probably never sell it, just hand it down to one of my kids. From everything I'm told, a used LCM cannot be reprogrammed for use in another car, only the new ones can can be programmed.

You can reprogram the LCM. just be sure not to advertise a specific mileage if selling as that is considered sale using false weights and measures.

That is odd. It is even possible to reprogram the odometer to display whatever you want it to say. I had one 2008 328i that had a crack in the cluster. After changing it, I just had to hook it up to the GT-1, and got the mileage back where it was supposed to be at 37k instead of 103k that the new cluster had. I have aligned many LCMs to cars and never had a problem.

Really? I'm sorry. I didn't know they could be. The other posts I found said they couldn't be reprogrammed. Would I need to take it to a dealer?

I usually take the LCM and the cluster out and take it to someone who has acess to eeprom and they will take care of it. When I put it back in, I have no problem. I am pretty sure the dealer will do it for you, but you might as well bring your firstborn along too.
