Dealer Paint Protection warranty for $399
Dealer offered a paint protection for 7 years for $399 that will protect the car paint from discoloration and fading, bird poop and will "seal" the paint with a one time application.
It also protects the headlights against fading. The headlights are expensive, do they discolor/fade in 7 years? I plan on keeping the car as long as it doesn't give me troubles. Is it worth it? Are there any other options to seal the paint manually? I'm not a DIY guy but starting to learn stuff. Can we just spray some kind of sealant? Thanks. |

Your paint is already sealed. If you want to improve its resistance to fading, learn how to do a good hand wax job and have at it. What the dealer is trying to sell you is a ripoff. Nothing applied once will protect paint for seven years.
Also do not buy any spray-on protection for your interior, any extra undercoating, or any window etching. All those are valueless rip offs too. |

I have it on good authority this is the "protectant" they use:

LOL. I'll call to cancel it. What caught my attention was the 7 yr protection for the headlights.

The biggest problem with the headlamps (and it's a minor problem IMHO) is that over time they can get "sandblasted" by stones and other road debris. You can get clear plastic strips to protect them. The plastic strips will yellow over time, but if/when they do you can pull them off and replace them.
Like any bulb, HID's can and will burn out. If it happens to you in the first 50,000 miles, it should be covered by warranty. If it happens after 50,000 miles, neither the dealer's paint protection plan nor the Anal Lube are going to replace them for you. Save your money.

Is there any "protection" you won't buy????
It is one thing to buy a warranty, but to buy 'dealer applied crap' and fall for it thinking it has some kind of guaranty or assurance that it will last 7 years is mind blowing. If I told you I'd sell magic liquid that gave you 20 year protection would you buy it? This isn't the cheap, "buy it at any dealer 7 year stuff", but the real 20 year stuff. Never mind that the contract/paperwork says "up to 20 years, not responsible for normal wear and tear" Kudos for asking, but sheesh. A |

congrats!!! where are the pics???
PS don't fall prey to that warranty. I'll let you know about the 'lease protection" in 33 more payments.

Those coatings that you can't see... there's a reason you can't see them, no? Hint: They don't exist!
(I hope there aren't any religious fanatics responding to this). |

THIS is the thread of the year. Reading through it, I find myself laughing uncontrollably!! Your guys' responses are hilarious!! LOL.
![]() OP - I think the paint already has a 7 year "perforation" warranty, IIRC. Get a 3M "clear bra" for the headlights and call it good. WAY less than $400.

Find a good local detailer and have your car done by a real pro. A good sealant is worth the money, but it shouldn't cost more than a flat screen tv. If you are a DIY guy, I recommend Zaino products.
