2011 vs 2012

I have a 2011 on order, my first BMW (750Li) and now I am a little concerned about a couple of things:

1. How much of a hit am I going to take (car value) from ordering a 2011 so close to the 2012 coming out?
2. What all is going to change for the 2012? Some concerns I have about the 2011 are lack of LEDs and a smaller trunk for a car this size.
3. Should I go renegotiate my price for the 2011?
4. When are the 2012's coming out?

1. You will take a full years hit when the 2012's come out.
2. Initial reports talk about LED's and a larger trunk among other things.
3. I would.
4. I don't know but I think initial reports say toward the end of the summer.

On a personal note I would never order a 2011 at this point unless there was a serious price consideration or I had to have a car now.

From what I have heard, 2012 production starts next month - 2011 production is finished.

There are currently some big incentives on 2011s.

I don't understand how BMW got into the habit of releasing new model years in the third month of the prior year; i.e.: 2012's in March 2011, 2011's in March 2010, etc. It just turned 2011 for g-d sake. So the question remains whether the LCI / facelift will be for the NAS 2012 model year or for the NAS 2013 model year... The later of which would be what - March 2012 - a year and a month from now? Also note it seems BMW schedules mid model year changes in the month of September.

Not sure if you can actually order a 2012 now, but I haven't tried. I know you can't order a 2011 anymore. I believe 2012 first delivery is April/May.

From what I have seen, I don't think there are big changes coming for the 2012 model. LCI is probably for 2013 model year whenever that is... LOL.

I also saw the bulletins that said nothing major is changing for the 2012 with the exception of the sport steering wheel becoming standard. I don't know where you guys get all this news of these big changes happening for 2012. They aren't any. It won't be until 2013 so you won't see the car on lots probably for another 13-16 months.

As for concerns for the lack of LED's.....both tails and headlights have ALL Led's with the exception of the angel eyes.

The LED's don't concern me too much. What does concern me a little is the trunk space. I heard the 2012 is bigger, but I don't know what "bigger" equates too??

The other is price. I'm a little pissed at my sales person (whom I will talk to tomorrow) that didn't mention Feb was the last build date for the 2011s. I could have waited 5 weeks and had a car that was "NEW" not a year old before I even get to drive it.

Havent heard if the stereo is better or not. The one that is in it seems ok to me.

I've read some news online about the 2012, but it's hard to separate the rumors from reliable information.

The changes that are said to have been made included LED Angel Eyes, a possible increase in power (maybe to pre-empt the increases in horsepower mercedes is unleashing on the turbo V8 in the new CL550, which may also end up in the next S550 change), a kidney grill with an outline more similar to the new 5 series, and a redesigned trunk line. I didn't hear anything about an increase in trunk space until now, but I guess they could add a bit more if they were to increase the profile of the trunk lid.

I'd cancel my order and wait an extra couple of months for the 2012. The dealers are offering price drops on the 2011's to get rid of them, so if you do decide to stick with your 2011 order you should make the dealer take as big of a bite on it as you can.

I hear that the 2014 models are going to be the best so far.

Its funny though....I've read on this forum that changes are coming to the 2011 starting with March production (ref the new 6NR option). How can that be if Feb is the last month for 2011 production 7s? Or is the new 6NR option, new production etc...speaking about the 2012 model?

Maybe this is why my sales guy didn't answer my questions......

Same here. One dealer told me production won't be until September, while it sounds like two members on the board were told March/April.

I am sure that production is over for the 2011 model which means that they will not be waiting until September for the 2012s. I have heard from more than one good source that 2012 models will be available in the April timeframe.

I just went to BMWUSA website.

You can no longer custom build a 2011!!

You CAN build a 2012....and get this, I can build a 2012 750Li for less $$ than my 2011 750Li with the same configuration (about a $5K diff). The only thing I could not find was a premium sound upgrade....maybe this is standard now and not an option.

They combined the HUD into the Driver Assistance Package as well as the side and top view cameras.

M Sport package is now 3200 not 6500.

Smart Phone integration is included.

I will be going to my dealer tomorrow and canceling my '11.

I just checked the stats.....

AUDI A8L....13 CUBIC FEET TRUNK SPACE (Yes....13!)
S550.....16.5
750LI.....17.7

The A8 has a smaller trunk size than even the A6. Look at the reviews, that is a knock on that car. I think the trunk size is just fine.......granted, I had a M6 before so anything would be bigger than that.

There's a guy on bimmerpost.com that works for BMW in Europe and he said the 7 series facelift would debut at the 2012 Beijing Autoshow (which is last week or March or April I think). So....I can't see BMW taking orders for the new model until after the debut and then with a few months for production.....I doubt we see a facelift before late spring or summer next year as a 2013 model.

He said....and again....this is rumor....no one knows for sure his credentials.....that they would have LED headlights.....redesigned front bumper and angled grilles like the new 5 series.....re-profiled rear spoiler (which won't add to trunk).....and 8 speed tranny meaning possibly more HP/Torque. I am sure they will put new taillights in, too.

My advice....get the M Sport package. BMW normally doesn't do much facelifting to M models even when they facelift the normal models in that line. The M6 only had updated tails and headlights.....nothing was done to the body (actually, maybe new mirrors). Look at E92 M3...I don't think bumpers were re-done at all......just headlights and taillights.

I was also told September production on 2012 model's......so go figure.

GLindsey....what link are you using on the BMW website to build a 2012? I just went to their build you own link on their website and they are all 2011 still for all types of 7 series. I don't see any option to build a 2012.

I can online right now and custom build a 2012 750Li. Wouldn't make much sense if I had to wait until Sept for them to build it. Nov/Dec delivery?? I think production will start in March.

I believe that Active Roll Stabilization has been removed from the M Sport Package so that explains the price drop there.

HUD and Cameras are now in the Drivers Assistance Package

Did you order an xDrive car? I think Premium Sound was supposed to be standard now there.

I am logging into BMW (My BMW). I then go to 7 Series, build you own. It states you cannot build anymore 2011s. Click "View all models" and you get a list of the new 7 Series:

Funny, I tried the website this morning and it did not show the 2012 models so it must have come up later today.

So, I am assuming all the articles online with the changes for 2012 was all not true?

Ahhh...the new 6 series.

With the exception of the iDrive screen which I don't like...yet another 7 on the inside.

Soon our cars will look like very other BMW.
