Reprogram Amplifer ?????

I have a 2001 x5. The Lear Amplifier apparently went out. I found a used one on ebay guaranteed to work. Plugged it in and it works for 30 seconds then shuts off. On line seller and other articles indicate the amplifier needs to be reprogramed. I called 2 BMW dealers and they said they can't re-code a used unit. I called 3 independant BMW/Audi shops and one said possibly if I had the vin number from the vehicle that the used amplifier came out of. I suspect BMW can do it but just wont unless you buy a new one from them. I see all sorts of articles online that say they can be reprogramed, but I cant find where to have it done. I wanted to keep everything stock in the vehicle so I found the LEAR amplifier match and assumed it should work. Has anyone had a similar situation and able to have theirs reprogramed? PS the place I got it online from is very reputable and 99.7% positive at over 20,000 items sold.
