DIY Clean Mass air flow sensor P1160 Code
I recently got this code P1160 Fuel Trim .. and my SES light came on. I searched online and saw it could be a number of different things but I wanted to try if this works before I spend money on a new one. There are some DIY guides already but I'm going to make one to make things easier to search for other people.
1) Buy this cleaner for about $8, go mine at Autozone. It was near the brake cleaner, where all the other car spray is located. ![]() 2) I chose to remove the airbox (left) so I'm able to wiggle the MAF. Remove 2 clips surrounding the tube and unscrew the ring on the right side. ![]() 3) I didn't remove that wire and ended up having adequate room for spraying. ![]() 4) Surprise!! Looks like an insect's wing managed to pass the air filter and into the MAF which probably triggered the code ![]() ![]() 5) Spray! I didn't use the red straw. I just made it until the whole tube was wet. However I wasn't spraying directly into the sensor. ![]() 6) I waited until it was all dry then waited another 5-10mins to make sure. Now make sure you DO NOT TOUCH THE SENSOR. Put it back together doing the opposite. You do NOT have to reset the code. It will go away once you start the engine. If it's still on, you have another problem. ![]() If this helps someone I'll be happy. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi E Fifty 3,
Great Post, I am planning on doing the same today or tomorrow. I was wondering why you did not spray MAF sensor cleaner into the sensor. I thought that was the only thing that I was supposed to clean. Best |
