Anyone have any info re: installing the Bluetooth Retrofit kit in a pre-2002 E39?

Many thanks in advance.

One can only speculate why BMW NA is not bringing the retrofit kit for the pre-03/2002 built cars, when the kits are available for all model years of E39 in Germany. I am not absolutely certain if the part numbers are the same for all cars, but my 12/2001 built 2002 530i's part number is 84 64 0 302 172 and it costs about 758 Euros. the install is about additional 350 Euros according to the quotes I received from the Niederlassung Berlin. My guess is that they feel it might too expensive, or too complicated. At today's rate, 758 Euros is about $960.

I asked Crevier parts guy if they can get that part, and the reply was that it is an European part number and they do not see it in their system. Perhaps other dealers may have a different answer.

John

New info from Crevier that a pre 5/02 retrofit kit "has been released" by BMW for US E39's.

Not sure exactly what that means or when availability will be, but sounds encouraging nonetheless.

alternatively, you could go to http://www.bmwnav.com/bluetooth.htm and get one of their retrofit kits. I have on on my 6/00 production 00 M5 and it works very nicely with my SE T616.

Hi,

A number of people have asked the differnce between the old and new ULF modules, and the below link has a good write up on the changes from the problematic first generation ULF module.
