E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993. |

So, the guy who owned this car before me put in a subwoofer, amp, and large capacitor...
After your 'cca' comment- I thought maybe it was drawing a bunch of power during the time of ignition... so I unplugge the amp. It started right up. May be a fluke... but give me about 30minutes, I will try again. -chris Sent from my Droid using Bimmer App |

It has started twice with no issue- thirty to fourty minute intervals seperating each start.

sounds like you found the problem, but with the amp drawing so much voltage it may just be showing you a potential problem.. i would have your battery tested and make sure its holding a charge properly and your alt checked.
I would put money on one of the two being on its way out good luck man

Nope, oddly it was a fluke... both times.
I got home after an hour drive and fifteen minutes later --long cranking. Sent from my Droid using Bimmer App |

Its been raining here so I haven't got a chance to check yet. But I changed the mass air sensor --it starts frequently without much hesitation. Unless the car is still warm.

So, I swapped the thermo time switch for a used one, and the problem worsened. So, I assume this may be it.
But another issue has come up that is quite a bit worse. I noticed a little bit of coolant leaking, and I drove home; and just before I got home it got really hot and smoked a little... Now I see oil dripping (small amount) on to the ground. There is a bit of oil on the crank case, under the oil filter, the filter looks wet too... the dip stick now shows the oil level being just below the "low" line. It was in between both lines just yesterday. I'm not sure where its leaking from, or a good method of finding out. Any tips? Sent from my Droid using Bimmer App |

Change The ECU Chip
it was a common problem on them. changing the ecu chip should fix it.
