It is for the main thermostat (p.n. 11 51 7 805 811).

I'm having the hard time to remove the EGR Cooler in order to get an access to thermostat.

I can't help with replacement procedures, but curious as to miles on your X5. Was hoping the diesel cooling parts were tougher than the crap on the E46 and other models of that era.

It has 50k miles. The other guys says, that they replace it with every antifreeze replacement, because ut works good for a couple years only.

I'd replace the pump too, while at it.
Go to the diesel forum and search for "egr cooler dyi" topic, it had link to tis document.

I believe I did see this topic, however in the TIS there where instructions for the different engine (M57TU). Mine is M57N2

It is actually. I cannot remove the pipe from filter to turbo so easily as on M57TU.

Ended up with replacing main thermostat and tranny heat exchanger thermostat (I do not have EGR thermostat).
After was able to see 90-93C.
