Newbie needs help with purchase

Hello all
I'm hoping to get some advice with a new purchase.
Its time to trade wife's 05 audi A8 for something newer. We looked at all of the usual suspects and it seems a 535i is the way to go.
Can anyone shed some light on the current deals? With the options we are looking at the msrp will be approx $63-65k. What should I expect to get off the sticker?
We briefly looked at the lease but decided to go with a purchase instead.
Any help-advice is greatly appreciated.

If you bargain right you can go below invoice. I just did on my 535i. Got it for a 1000 below

For the benefit of us non US types could someone please explain what this means? :-)

Presumably $500 over invoice doesn't mean you paid $500 more than you were invoiced for? $500 more than they said it would cost - what?

ROUGHLY speaking, invoice is what a dealer "pays" the manufacturer for the car. It's not really the number, as there are other funds the dealer gets, like holdback, sales quota incentives, etc., that permit them to sell the car at close to what they "paid" for it.

Go to a site like edmunds.com and price the car with options. You'll see the difference between MSRP and Invoice pricing. it's usually close to 10%.

The deals bandied about around Christmas time here in the US were about $300 over invoice BEFORE the holiday cash. I wouldn't be surprised if you could still get the same.

What I heard from a local dealer was that BMW is offering a 1000 $ cash back on the 5 series. So definitely, there is a deal to be made at or below invoice

I got my 550xi for Invoice plus $200 and got the $1000 back on top of that. The $1,000 was for deliveries before the end of Feb though. Not sure it is still available.

That might be true. The first I heard of the 1000$ cash back was around President's Day holiday sales. There is of course no harming in asking. If anyone in the Southern or Northern CA region is looking, talk to Polo Lopez from Valencia BMW. He gave me a great deal.

I got my F10 2011 550 M-sport on 12/4/10 at $300 below dealer invoice (this was "net" after the $1500 BMWNA holiday cash rebate).

thank you folks,
Talked to a couple of dealers, it seems $500 over invoice + $1000 incentive won't be a problem. I was an ED it would be approx $3500 less than what I could negotiate "here". Any thoughts on that ?

If it is really $3500 less than a local buy, that sounds like a really good deal. BTW - the BMWNA website reflects no financing or leasing incentives right now - what incentive are you referring to?

So that is a net of 500 below invoice. Good deal but see if you can make it a great deal by getting at invoice + 1000 $ incentive.

RH512: ordered as what I want is not in stock. For some reason nobody orders ventilated seats......

autojack: The $1000 is still from the Feb. incentive. However, it was hinted to me they will likely be matching MB incentives in March. Anyways they know something, he offered a $1000 or whatever the March offer is, whichever is better.

samunra: considering the car will have to be ordered, I think it would be pushing my luck.
However, you are right.... if you dont ask, the answer is always no.

Very True. When I started looking the best offer I got was 1200 over invoice. Now that would have put my total cost in uncomfortable range especially when you factor in TTL. However there are at least 10 BMW dealerships in the Bay Area. I worked on all of them and then went to an LA dealer to get the car since his was the best price including the moving cost to here. However over the timeline that I was looking the cost dropped on a per call basis till I was at invoice for an ordered car. My suggestion is to talk to all the dealers in your area even if you are a 100 miles away. You never know what you can get.

Taz, that sounds good if you can get it. FWIW, any amount under dealer invoice is a good deal.

samunra, can you recall the name of the L.A. area dealer who shipped your F10 to the Bay area?

What is Polo Lopez's email? Is he in Fleet sales or regular sales?

At the end of December I was offered what amounted to about $1k over ED invoice (7% under US invoice on base MSRP without options plus options at US invoice plus $875 delivery) on a 550ix M sport with SAT, CW, PP2, HUD, Smart Phone. No holiday cash is included in this calculation, nor sales tax, license, etc. I shopped seven dealerships regionally. One other was within a few hundred of this price.

What type of quotes have you received using this service? That is in relationship to invoice?
