Why no Z3/Z4M in the M discussion area?

I have concluded that it is total BS the 1M gets a listing on the M discussion board and the Z3/Z4M doesn't. For craps sake, the 1M doesn't have an M motor in it!

Everyone who owns an MZ3 is just so much more awesome than common economy car M owners in that other forum.

That, and we are more than happy to help everyone with non M cars.

I fall into both categories.

Good point. I agree but you forgot to add in the Z4M owners.

Ditto! I noticed here, even before I bought my Z4MC (just trolling then) that everyone was willing to help, no matter if they were Z3 or Z4, Coupe or Roadster, M or not. I have had similar experiences in person. The Z car people are a varied lot, but always good to talk to. Every time I try to engage an E46 M3 guy in conversation about specifics of the S54 I get drooling and blank stares OK, not always, but more than I would expect. I guess I assume that driving an M car means you must at least be a closet gear head.

I'm glad that the 1 Series got an M model, I just wish it was more than a chipped 135 with ///M badges.

I thought about the same thing "Why no ZM section" but it does not matter because of the same comments above.

If you have a Z 1.01 your going to get help if you need it and someone here has the ablity to help you. Personally I am no "Gear Head" because I own a "M", I just LOVE THE CAR!!!

Anyway I diegress, you will find that Z owners love talking Z's. Nuff Said!

Best regards

In order to buy any Z you have to be a no compromises car guy/girl.

Those people with back seats are still trying to justify a minivan with their mid life crisis.

Everyone knows that Z owners are more awesome than anyone driving a minivan, I mean 1 series. (Have you seen how tall those things are?)

Wouldn't be so bad if the hood was longer or the roof was lower.

It just seems like someone put it in a compactor and made it shorter than it was supposed to be.

I couldn't agree with you more about your whole post. We're all here to help each other in here.

I've also gotten blank stares from E46 M3 owners. I think that since the E90+ M3s came out, the E46 M3s resale prices have dropped into a lower price range where noobs that only know about M3s when they hear the word BMW end up buying one. So I think there are a lot of people buying those that may really like their cars but are not real enthusiasts and don't know much about them. And so maybe some of them aren't the gear heads anymore because they're not the original owner. The first owner was probably like what you were assuming when you wanted to talk with someone about your S54.

With the Z3M/Z4M roadsters and coupes, still and will most likely stay at premium resale prices for BMW and the fact that they have two seats means that they are not meant for everyone from the beginning. These aren't all the reasons, but probably a few to start with.

I think I'm pretty close to a real BMW enthusiast with a pretty good knowledge of them. Between my dad, brothers, and I we've owned the following cars and sold some of them throughout the past few years.

2 - E30s
3 - E36s
1 - E34
1 - E39
1 - E86 Z4MC (My new baby as of a couple weeks ago, you can see her in the thread I made with pics a few days ago)

Now that you mention it, they are proportioned a little weird.

As far as "bath tub on wheels", I like to keep that nickname for the PT Cruiser.

I have always felt the love on the regular Z3/4 board and there is no question the M version is special. I love mine.

All was fine not having a separate M board until the 1M received one. If there is any car less deserving of having its own discussion board, it is the 1M. The 1M is a joke!

PT Cruiser is Bath Tub with a lid!

Jumping up and down about not having a Z M section ain't helping your heart any so calm down and chill. It ain't worth the aggravation.

Best regards

I don't really care about getting a ZM discussion area. It seems silly and incredibly biased that the 1M does get one though.

Especially since the 1M is limited to a run of 1700 cars!

This discussion has brought to mind a question.

Which comes 1st? The "M" in MZ4 or Z4M.

Or does it even matter? Because your either a M or your not? (nothing mean or bellittling of non m car owners intended in this comment).

Best regards

I see both designations but IIRC neither is "correct" because the official name (at least from the marketing dept.) is either "M Coupe" or M Roadster". I think that the expanded designation comes from the user community to differentiate them from the Z3M (or MZ3) that came before.

Except for the Z3/Z4 crowd, if I call my car an M Coupe, everyone (including other BMW owners and employes of the local BMW dealership) thinks I mean M3 coupe. I've learned to refer to my car as a "Z3 M Coupe".

Yes, I can see the dealerships having identity issues.

I have gotten used to Z4MR so I guess it will stick for me.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Best regards.

Now on to the why no M Board.

Z4 M just seems to flow better. The Z4 has a real solid name, unlike the 3-series. Z4 3.0i, Z4 3.0si, Z4 M.

No M board? The numbers are small, the changes even fewer, and the base Z4 is still pretty exciting. It fits to lump them all together.

The Z4 doesn't get enough love, we need to stick together. And if your headlights or radio isn't working, and the top wont move it's all the same.

My title says "M"

So my car isn't a Z3, its an "M" Coupe

What do the titles on the Z4 cars say?
