Differential Oil Type

Hey folks,

Decided on a last minute decision to do a differential fluid change. I don't have time to order the fluids online (redline). Does anyone know what type of diff fluid would be good to use that I can get locally. I have a great NAPA store in town as well as the usuals Pep, Autozone, etc.

The parts guy at my dealership was unsure about selling me stuff out of their barrels.

Thanks in advance.

for non-M cars without limited slip diff stick with 75-90 synthetic, royal-purple, redline, Motul etc.

Unless you have aftermarket LSD then go with 75-140 weight.

A few sunoco stations in my area carry Redline... Check around - you might get lucky.

Use the RedLine 75W90. NAPA may be able to get it for you. What's the rush, anyway?

I ended up ordering my gear oil from here: JEGS

Thanks for the relpies...

No huge rush, my next several weekends will be booked, then it's golf season
thought I'd bang out some fluid changes this weekend.

I found 75w90 Royal Purple at a local "custom shop" - found these guys by first calling NAPA, they referred me. NAPA can only order redline by the case.

Gonna try to take some pics of the old fluids if you guys are interested, just did a power steering fluid change.

75-90 Mobil 1 here. It's somewhat difficult to get the fill plug out and I needed a long hex bit to get in there so maybe take a look at what it takes before draining the gear lube.

That bring one golden rule, make sure you can loosen the filler plug before un-screwing the drain plug or you'll be screwed.

I had local dealer change my 530 differential fluid. they charged me 150$.

Good thing is the SA didn't come up with the 'life time fluids' BS, he just went ahead and wrote down my order and then had it done.

Will pick up the car tomorrow, will see if there is any noticeable difference.

The recommendation of most technicians is to change the differential fluid every 60k miles.
