Talking 550xi Msport...Incredible

Hi everyone,
Just picked up my 550xi and the car is unbelievable. I just came out of a 2008 750li with sports package and this car blows it away. I can't believe technology these days.Unfortunatly i too have the grinding noise when i turn once in a while, the bmw dealer says it just needs a reprogram. Anybody know if we can swap chips from a m5 to 550 would make a diffrence. I know m5 has same engine, they must of turned up boost threw software.i will post pics soon

Since the M5 is not yet out, it's not known what the differences are between the M5 and 550 engines. FOr sure, the M engines in the X5M and X6M have different intake manifolds and turbos, not just the software.

I can't wait for my 550xi to come in next month especially after reading reviews like yours. I decided to get the sport transmission, was wondering why you chose not to unless you just didn't list it on your options list.

550i xDrive will stay the fastest AWD as M5 will be RWD only. For those of us using the car in snow there is no other option.

Forgot to list sport transmission.. Let me tell you, you really feel the diffrence in suspension and steering. Simply incredible, you feel so connected to the road. Just be careful when in sport modes because when you hit one of these pot holes you feel like the car just cracked in half. Our roads are not meant for these type of machines..

nah that's those hockey pucks you have on the car. get some non-rfts, and make sure they align your car correctly.

and after 1500 miles, maybe you make a call to your local Dinan tuner

Where did you get the Audi s5 from? My cousin owns a big Audi dealership on long island. Did you buy or lease BMW?

We should start a thread helping people with buying the car or leasing.I know I got my car for a steal compared to other dealers.
My car stickered at over $77k and I leased it with 15k a year for 36mos all taxes rolled in, had to pay 1st month and bank fee. $ 1069 a month

Coming out of a S5, performance wise you won't feel a major difference..

I used Legend in Amityville, I've been dealing with them for years (the S5 is my 4th. Audi). I was thinking about the new Audi A6, (I want a mid size 4 door) but when the new 5 series came out that was it for me. It covers all the bases, comfort, luxury, performance, all weather driveability and good looks. I lease the S5 and will lease the 550ix.
I'm hoping the roads are repaired before i get my car otherwise like you said we're going to be going through tires and maybe wheels. I wasn't going to get the tire and wheel insurance but i think with 19" wheels and the horrible road conditions I think i will.

I think that although the 550ix is heavier than the S5 the higher HP and torque of the BMW will more than make up for the additional weight as far as acceleration is concerned. The Audi is nose heavy (the entire engine block is forward of the front axle) where the 5 series has much better weight distribution so I'm thinking the handling won't suffer either so bottom line I think overall performance will actually be better. I like the S5, it's a beautiful car, has been problem free and performs well but the 550ix gives me the 4 door car i want without any sacrifices other than the whole run flat issue.

Trust me, you will be more than happy.

The acceleration of the 550 is unbelievable. My S4 was agile, but the BMW power brings a smile to my face everytime I accelerate it. I am still getting use to the heavy feeling ride though..

The car is a beast. I see you have a Porsche Turbo, so you may be harder to impress than I am..

John, good point - I've seen this video before.

I was referring more to "performance feeling" than actual results.. lol.
I actually wonder how the 550 does in the track. I found a video in youtube of one in Germany.. I will post here if I find it again..

I took mine on the Sneterton Race track this week, the car has 1730MILES on it.
We tested the 0-60 and it was timed @ 4.8 secs, which on 95 ron fuel is quick, I am now going to fuel it with 99 ron over the next few weeks and re-time it.
But putting it round the race track is pointless as it's a cruiser not a race car.

I've played with 335i's with my S5 and handling wise the 335i is superior (less overall weight and better weight distribution with similar torque), straight line acceleration wise it's pretty close. The S5 is not a sports car, it's too heavy with bad weight distribution, it's a really nice luxury cruiser. I would think on a track the 335i would win over a 550i because the 335i would be far faster in the turns and the 550 would be faster on the straights. The 550 is just to heavy to post good track times.
There's no doubt the 550i will out accelerate an S5, there's a big difference in HP and torque.

Yep too true, tracking the 550i MS would be unadvantagous IMO.
As you say it's too big.

I expect to be very impressed.
As far as the heavy feeling, I'm used to that with the S5. The 550ix is a heavy car with a big V8 so I'm not expecting a sports car feel, this is a high performance luxury sedan.

Small world, I bought my Porsche's from Michael Siegal and yes I leased the Audi's from Ed Jaffe. I like Ed and Michael and feel bad about changing brands but Audi doesn't really have any competition for the 550 ix. I'll be seeing Michael again when the next version of the Porsche GT3 comes out.

I can't get over your lease payment BMWMsprt.
Here in St. Louis I have been quoted $1267/month for a 550xi with
only Prem 2, Conv. and Cold Weather packages. And $1124/ month for a
550xi with the same options, but with the sport package too. Both were
36 mos. 10k mile leases with no money down.

Did you put any money down on your lease? Please start the
leasing advice thread ASAP.

Thanks.
