First oil change ?

I just hit 1200 miles should I change the oil ?

+1, but personally I would change it (at my expense) at 5K miles. I would also not reset the oil service indicator either. Call me old fashioned but I still think there is something to be said for getting that initial "break in" oil out of there.

My last two BMWs have had a change at 5k. At my expense of course. 1200 seems a little premature.

I have 8.5k on odo and will be taking a semi-cross country trip in august and wanted to change oil- my question is in regard to the computer that tracks upcoming scheduled oil change which is showing another 8k miles - If i pay for this oil change, will it automatically reset and then start from zero until another aprox 15k miles?????i really was planning on an oil change at 7-8k range and then letting bmw do their normal change at ~15k, but was not sure how it all works. can i tell tech to track manually the current due date? any input is appreciated, as on all my other bmw(leases) i just went with the scheduled maintenance(my 09 sedan went to 18.4k miles before they took it in etc) but this one is my wifes and we are keeping, so thought i would be a bit more obssesed/detailed on maintenace than usual. many thanks all

I would do (did) the exact same thing for the exact same reason.

The reset is NOT automatic, but you have to tell the Service shop not to reset.

thanks no12- so the carputer is unaware of this change etc, and just keeps ticking away from initial factory fill until the aprox 15k -initial oil change date-? ok, sounds good- thanks

I changed my oil at 5000 like I do on all my bmws even if they are leases. The oil is always black.
