The engine will not start any differently either. IOW, if someone did the swop while you were not looking, you wouldn't notice the difference at all after you got back into your car and drove off. Another contribution : using a heat shield to cover the starter does not significantly affect its lifespan.

What is the option for this for the 535i .. I'd love to get a little more mpg

not much. Short of a more modern engine.

Coming from someone who's passionate about that old workhorse sounds strange.
But its actually spot on.

The most you can do is to do a full tune up including a valve adjustment which should yield
you a good 18 maybe 20 mpg depending on driving habits, environment, and geographic location.

That said I do know of a guy named Shogun who has fuel efficiency chips for the m30 but he'll have to fill you in on the details himself.
He's a member of Bimmerforums and also has his own webpage which I linked in the e34 bible.

If it's like bumper to bumper traffic I get about 16 mpg

If it's average city driving I get about 18 mpg
And highway I get 22-20 depending on my speed (64-75)

So I get decent mpg but wouldn't mind better and if a smaller Fuel pressure regulator would do the trick and I wouldn't lose too much HP . Sign me up

One note, if you are planning a custom tune, (bigger injectors, turbo, WAR chip, swap, etc...) the 540 hfm IS an upgrade as it's reporting resolution is much higher. This allows for more incremental tuning if you know how to use it. If you don't understand what I just said...ignore this post.

My name on other forums is E34ührer. I am always around. I don't come here often. This place is too frustrating most of the time. 'Facts' become 'lies' and false info becomes 'fact' here a bit more than I care for. I pop in once a year to check things out...we will see how long it takes this year for the mods to gang up on me and give me infractions because I don't agree with their friends...

Understood, and Understood.
Yeah the facts become lies and false info becomes Fact thing we've been trying to curb to a halt lately. It is freakin' frustrating.

I wouldn't worry about the ban thing.
With the combination of a few bfc veteran crossover members and the more seasoned fest members we pretty much police this ourselves.
Because of this it's been pretty loose and not as uptight as it used to be.

The Mods step in more or less to make sure that we don't start attacking each other in a cannibalistic frenzy.

Yeah I know who you are. Lol
But I must have got you confused with MeanM50 from bf.c. with the calypso e34 from out west.
Still the greeting is the same. Welcome back.

Fabian
Chips to go with:
Dinan
E.A.T
Racing dynamics
Ultra chips
AC Schnitzer (rare)
Dudd chips
W.A.R chip
Shogun

I probably forgot some but unless its one of the above chips stay away.

1. Running lower than stock FPR will cause your A/F rations to be lean on WOT. You will also be running hotter on average. Fuel cools internals.

2. Heat shields protect wiring and heat soaked starts, they are standard and it all depends how hot it is in your city and how hard you drive.

Also they are there to protect from corrosion and road elements (salt).

Not only this is a dumbest thing I have ever read, you are actually trying to damage peoples vehicles.

Lol your late to the party on that. We already debunked Bobby's theories. but you do bring a valid point. It should be removed for the sake of good info.
