Step 1: Cut out old ones.
Step 2: Weld in new ones. Take it to a custom exhaust shop, let them put it in. I got both of mine installed for $100 which I recouped by selling the old ones to a recycler. Overhand blind welding is not easy, its best to let someone who does it all day long do it. Even if they are not a BMW specialist.

Do you enjoy working on rusty exhaust systems? If so, it's a remove/replace job.
Bear in mind, the I6 exhaust manifold bolts are, I believe, $21 apiece, so don't break them if you can help it. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...83&hg=11&fg=50 Pappa Bear, he has a six; different ballgame. The Bav Auto cats are an assembly, with the pipes attached.

There is just this: - DIY: Free Fix for LOOSE Catalytic Converter Shields - Catalytic converter dissection photos - What kills catalytic converters? - Miller Remanufactured Catalytic Converters I ask the OP to run a search and let us know better DIY links that pop up so the next person stands on his shoulders. |

It would have been nice if the OP had gone through the catalytic converter threads to find the best to help others ... but nonetheless, I just wrote this up for the bestlinks.
- How to remove & replace a catalytic converter (1) & how to fix rattling cat shields (1) & P0420 codes related to cats (1) (2) (3) & cat autopsy photos (1) & what kills cats (1) & an EPA fact sheet on catalytic converter warranties (1) We probably could use work on these - but since I've never worked on my cats, I don't have any personal knowledge of what is of interest to others in the future so that's what we have now.
