2000 Z3 2.0i bad rear noise

I've my car a few weeks now and have noticed a whining from the rear when i get ot around 38-40 mph. It disappears after or before that. I'm thinking probably road noisemore than anything but also going to renew my diff oil. I don't think it's bearings as i had new discs and pads fitted when i bought it and think they'd have noticed. Any suggestions?? Cheers!

I had a whine from the diff - a change to Mobile 1 75W-140 and all quiet (around 45k on the car)
