I am a fresh new member to the forums and a BMW m3 fanatic. I MAY buy my frist BMW M3. I found one online or sale in MN and I live in colorado. IT is a 1999, manual, E36 with low miles. I was thinking about making a trip up there and getting it, but I am kinda worried about it. I am worried that the car may have some mechanical problems. When I have talked to the sales man, of course everything is great! He sent many detailed photos of some minor scuffs. I know the test drive is key! I was thinking about sending it to a BMW dealer in the area for a full "check up" on the car. IS this a good idea? I was wondering what you guy think? Is there someone in the area that could help me? maybe come with me on the test drive? It has been a live long dream to own an M3 and the last thing I want to do is get screawed

Yes, take it to a dealer or independent BMW shop and get a pre purchase inspection done on it. Also, go on youtube and search for e36 pre purchase inspection to help you get an idea of what to look for.

No, absolutely do NOT do that. Dealers make $$ on selling new cars, not helping you search for cars over a decade old. You'll be ignored, or promised things that won't happen.

You can ask a local dealer to do a PPI for you, once you zero in on the car you want.

You also might find some popular indie mechanics in your area, and let them know you are looking.

awesome, I am not sure what you mean by a PPI, there is a car dealer near my house that you can have them do a search for a car and help you find one. Here is where we site. If you could take a look at it that would be awesome. Is this what you mean when you are saying a dealer can do a PPI for you? I really appricate your help. thanks a ton. PPI just stands for Pre Purchase Inspection. A dealer or a good independent can do it for you.
