new E39 owner

I recently bought a 2000 528i with 67K miles for $6500. My E34 isn't working as of right now and I was wondering what to watch out for in regards to owning a e39. I know with E34's the cooling systems are notorious for breaking down. What should I expect with this model?

Congrats on your purchase, with the low mileage and assuming it was taken care of you will have many years of enjoyment to come.

Well you have come to one of the right places, recommend you start by reading the FAQs here and at the other BMW forums and you will be able to establish a good base line of kowledge from which to formulate more specific questions.

You will love this car. When you get a shake in the front end at 50-55mph, time to swap out the trust arm bushings.

We anticipated this question.

BMW_n00b13 wrote it all up in the E39 wiki for you.

Congrats! I'm sure you're likely to love your new purchase. In no particular order, common issues are:
- cooling systems
- Vanos seals (if applicable)
- valve cover gaskets
- ABS/Brake/ATC or DSC light triangle
- missing display pixels
- front suspension pieces need replacing often
- rear suspension failure (wagons)

That is, unfortunately, by no means a comprehensive list.

Ha, welcome, I'm only four months in to my "love affair" Sounds like a pretty nice deal with that mileage. Treat it right and you should get three times that easily.

Pics?
