A simple search would have yielded both answers to your questions.

Dude, it took me less than five minutes..

Use what's recommended in your manual, and for oil, it's up to you. Any full synthetic is generally approved.

Wrong Franklyn. Our power steering pumps take ATF, NOT power steering fluid...

Refer to your owners manual. It has all sorts of basic info that will help you out with things like this. The oil weight you use will vary depending on the season. I use Mobil 1 0W-40.

I haven't seen a better example of "please search before you post" in a while. Good job!

C'mon I haven't owned an E36 (present 'vert excluded) in a year and even I remember that!

It depends on your climate. Turlock, CA, huh? Crazy hot in the daytime, cold at night.
10w-40 (fully synthetic) should work well enough. Don't drive like you stole it so much and the engine will last you another 50k+!

I read somewhere that if your car has high mileage and you use regular motor oil it is a bad idea to switch to full synthetic. Actually I believe I read that in the oil sticky. If your using regular motor oil I wouldn't suggest switching to synthetic on such a high mileage car as yours.
