Just got a call from my dealer saying my 03-05-11 ordered MY2012 sport went into production here in good old South Carolina yesterday at noon! I have an April 4 completion of production date. Perf Cent Del date to be determined. Man...I thought the wait had been tough already...it's killing me now.

3-5 days up the East Coast, depending on how far north the travels.

10-14 days to West Coast and NW, by train X-country then truck from Oxnard, CA to final destination.

Outstanding. Hopefully it won't take long to travel up to MD! I called the number today and my completion date has been moved up from 4/4 to 4/2. You would think they'd know well in advance how long it takes to build something that's moving down an assembly line, but I'm certainly not going to complain when things get done faster than expected. I'd much prefer to be quoted a long time and have the date moved up than have it go the other way!

Getting very excited.....

^^ Didn't know the assembly line works on saturdays. Nice that they moved it up for you! Normal production time from start to finish is 5 bus. days.

On a related note, I have heard that it's possible to see either video or pictures of your car going through production. Is there any truth to this, or did the person not know what they were talking about?

I know this is now a feature for the new X3, don't know about X5

Just called the 800 number....seems it's only available for the X3. I can't figure why the cheaper car gets the upgrades first?!

So I called the BMWNA number today and now my X5 is in the "paint shop" and the production completion date is still 3/31. My CA told me delivery was scheduled for "third week of April." No idea if that means the week of the 11th or 18th. Either way, it seems like a long time to get the car from SC to Houston.

Probably because the ability to do this was done as part of the new X3 production line installation.

Sounds about right. Mine is supposed to be done 4/2, and is apparently in the body shop, which is before paint. Paint and assembly both take a day, so could be done tomorrow. There's also the possibility that the phone system isn't exactly right, since dates seem to change fairly frequently.

Someone else on here mentioned that west coast cars travel via train to CA, and then to wherever they need to go, so maybe that's why it takes so long to get to you from SC.

Thank you for submitting your recent Performance Center Delivery reservation for Roswell. Unfortunately, this production number (xxxxxx9) is a new production model and we cannot offer a delivery date at this time. Please inform your customer that we will contact you with a delivery date once the vehicle is produced, the EPA and CARB approvals have been received and an ETA has been assigned. We will do everything we can to deliver the vehicle at the earliest possible date and give your client the experience that he/she is looking forward to. Should the client wish to cancel you will need to submit a cancellation form which can be found on CENTERNET.

So am wondering now when we actually see 2012's being delivered? I was hoping for a 4/30 pick-up to match my current 535 lease return

I've read 5 days or so to the middle of the country. How long its held at the "Prep Center" stage is anyone's guess though.

Also note that they sometimes recycle production numbers. This was the case with mine....I got a used one that said it was at the dealership the first day I checked it!

Finally, mine entered production, completion on the 8th... The agony...

Today mine entered production stage with 8th completion date as well.
We ordered on Mar 2nd. But still a week later than some other folked ordered later

It has to do with dealer allocation slot for the particular model. Shipping is another issue entirely, another source of agony nonetheless.

Yeah, we are at Seattle, the shipping could take the longest time than others.
Train to CA, then truck to WA ....
