Did the x3 Experience the difference event

in Michigan today and I have to say they did a great job. I drove both the 28i and the 35i and while the 28i had plenty of power for regular driving, when you "stepped on it" it didn't wow me. The 35i was a different story! When you punched it, it was like a rocket! Wow! Loved that feeling and it sold me on the 35i. They had a mineral silver and brilliant silver to test drive. Both had the sport activity package and black leather interior. The 35i was loaded with everything but the dynamic handling package. Fun, fun, fun!

Sounds great about the 35i and I agree. Wonder how the rocket would feel if a proceed unit was installed (after market tuning). I'm thinking about doing it, as my N54 with proceed 'flew'.

I did the X3 experience as well. While the power of the 35I is undeniable, I found the throttle a bit touchy. It was either no response, or neck snapping acceleration leading to a bit of a herky jerky ride. The 28i was vastly more linear in this respect.

Yes, it was! Wonder why we were told the 35i did not have DHP by one of the guys working the event? Had a blast driving the Sav's regardless!

Glen E, did the 35i have the premium sound upgrade or was that the standard?

premium....as far as we could tell, both cars had everything except heads up...but some options a la carte and not part of a package...

The 28 must have not had the comfort package because I sat in the back and there was no seat heat. Now the 35 had the comfort package (sat in the back for a minute and the seats got toasty FAST). It would be nice if they listed the packages on each vehicle before you drove them.

each car had multiple copies of the window sticker avail reprinted, under the rear luggage deck. and you are correct, the 2.8 had the heated seats a al carte and not part of the cold weather package which gives rear seat heat.

Wish they would let you know that! Maybe give them a heads up for future events! Everyone was extremely polite and did do their best to answer questions

absolutely...the group was a mix of dealer staff and event people...the event people usually point that out, a dealer person may have missed it. But, the Kalamazoo event was very well attended and got a bit hectic at times...we certainly all could have missed it...I am not a BMW spokesperson so can't post more info here but thanks for the compliment on our customer handling, we strive to be the best and have a lot of fun.

Bye all!

Is it too late to attend a X3 event? A $500 certificate would be awesome!

Was invited to the event on Saturday as well, but hurricane weather conditions were not conducive to testing a vehicle, plus they still did not have one with DHP so no justification in trying again. And although I like the neck snapping acceleration, if the thing can't turn there is no point. Reminds me of the GMC typhoon. They dropped an LT-1 Vette engine in a suv that couldn't handle and everyone crashed them on hard turns/ Not saying the BMW doesnt have much better handling than that vehicle, but certainly nothing to write home about in comparison with my current ride. In fact it feels kind of "floaty" in non technical terms.

all X3's supplied by corporate for the X3 difference events had DHP. I had the monroney stickers and all cars thruout the country were the same. Any dealer supplied cars may have not had it.

Could there be one car without it? maybe, if one was substituted or something, but the 15 tour teams started with the same car specs on the 28 and 35.

Glen I think I rememer you from the event when you came to northern NJ. (prestige) You and the guy from Maine (can't remember name) were helping me. You'll be happy to know that I ordered up a 35i and am now waiting...waiting...waiting... I didn't get DHP though...although it was cool during the test drive, just seems to me it's something that for every day driving it sort of makes you overthink....

Anyway, i have to say that I probably bought the x3 b/c of the event...the type of driving I got it was more than I would with a "normal" dealer test drive and it made all the "difference" (no pun) Seriously...I was pretty much sold on the Q5 before the event but by hopping in one car then the next I could totally compare more accurately and the X3 was far superior...thanks man you guys were great!!!!!

Mole - that's great news - not me in NJ - my tour was up from Florida theu the midwest, ending in Michigan. However it could have been a friend of mine named "Ted" - ho was in that area. The tour was a true blast and i think you will see more events like this one from BMW in the future.

Not to quibble but the GMC Typhoon (and Syclone) were powered by turbo charged LB4 V6 engines. They ran 0-60 in 5.3 and did the quarter in 14.1 at 95 mph. They did have the twin 48mm throttle body from the small block 5.7. As an interesting aside the new BMW 35i does 0-60 in 5.5 (mfgs numbers). Now, if they really had the 'vette LT1 that would have been something!

Must have been lucky. As I hung out with some real gear heads when I was younger. Wouldn't doubt if it was a custom mod. I'm sure you are right, but regardless they were turning low number with no handling as well. Granted the BMW has better handling, but kind of a disappointing that they think people will blindly order a $50k plus vehicle hoping the DHP will make up for the lack of handling with respect to the older model.

The Syclone was even faster, with 4.8 to 60. Both were straight line machines, sort of a Stop Light Grand Prix sort of thing. Turning was not really a big consideration as I recall.
