My Road Trip 2011

I'm getting ready to take off on Saturday for a road trip. I will be heading up to PA via TN, NC, VA etc.
Has anyone driven I-40 in Arkansas lately?
I was through there a few years back and it was horrible.

Have fun on your road trip! I drove I-40 with the family last Thanksgiving across most of the state of AR (Memphis to the I-540 exit and back to Memphis). I recall that it was still bad, but maybe not quite as bad as in years past as there has been a little construction completed on a couple of eastern sections. I do remember heavy holiday traffic and quite a few annoying "elephant races" by semi's which got in the way...

I'm in Memphis and my wife is from Little Rock, so we are on that stretch quite a bit. The stretch isn't bad... just a couple spots of construction. And there is construction in West Memphis. Enjoy your trip!!!

Yeah pablo I packed some warm clothes. Feels weird, it's sunny and 85F out right now.

Definitely taking the 6 and will use the navigation if it's not too annoying. Otherwise, I have printouts for the entire trip.

If you're in the western parts of VA (NOT WVA), check out the Blue Ridge Parkway. It runs by where I used to live and is quite scenic. It's a 2-laner and plenty of slow drivers, so be warned!

I think it's Jenn's idea of keeping me inline while on the road. I should check it for a nanny cam.

The trip has hit it's first delay. Heavy weather is expected along my route all day Monday so I'll stay another day and head out Tuesday. Driving the Tail of the Dragon in the rain is not my idea of fun.

Well, I made it through Tennessee and found the Tail of the Dragon with some remote help (thanks Yorgi)
The Dragon was a BLAST I highly recommend it to anyone remotely close to take that drive. 318 curves in 11 miles and I bought the shirt.
Today there were hardly any cars. One pulled over for me and the other got passed in a hurry. It was a moving truck no less. Go figure. I stopped about half way through to take some pics and I could smell the brakes and tires. I was working the car hard. Once into it, I got into a groove and the corners were easy to hit in this car. Talk about sweet. I will drive it again on my way home.

I made it to Sunbury, PA. Unfortunately, I have to go to McDonald's to get internet access, so I will be online very sparce for the next week. I'll fill in more when I have time.
I-40 was great all the way across. Good road and little traffic. Most were truckers.

After spending a week in PA, I headed up to Niagara Falls. Meeting Yorgi this morning for breakfast. I have a story here for any speed demons past or present. I will post it when I get home.
I had 1 cut tire at a cost of $570 and I was going to replace the rft's when I got home. Now I have a friggin new one and I had to drive to a major city (hour and a half) to get a tire. I'll say this for rft's, they hold up at 70mph and no air. I still don't see why they can't repair them. They look like a regular tire inside just thicker on the side walls.
I did have some good company at a hotel on the way up. Talk about a nice car.

I'll post more whn I get home. So far 3200 miles and counting.

Finally back home. It is nice to be home.
I averaged 70 MPH for the whole trip, 24MPG over 4986 miles. 86 hours in the seat. I don't think I want to drive for a while.
