I hear more issues reported from owners with 35i than 35d lately. I'm just glad that I made the right decision to go with 35D...

I might sound like a ****-eyed optimist but the DME replacement is just a "bandage" to temporarliy mitigate the symptoms; the problem(s) could potentially require more invasive intervention than diagnosed. Your "engine malfunction" could still be in its embryonic stage. If the GM offered a full refund, take it. GL

OK, cool. so here is what you do. When you get there, they will have a pile of papers they will want you to sign...if they are sneaky, they will only show you the last page.. read it and understand it, ask questions- and determine if they were 100% honest with you.
If they were not, then that is important to know. |

Ok great that's what I'll do. I'm going to pick it up later today and will post what happens. I might try to get something in writing that if this continues I want a refund.

Ok here's the update, picked it up today, checked the paperwork before signing it and it was just the dme it said. Drove it all day seems completely fine. Hopefully its all behind me now. Will keep you updated if things change, for now I'm keeping it. Thanks for everyone's help.

This seems unusual. Have not heard about a N55 engine with this kind of issue.

Whatever. That is a nonsensical statement. It doesnt say if the dme was replaced or not. But you clearly do not want to talk about it. Best of luck |

Haha no its not that I don't want to talk about it, I just paraphrased what the paperwork said. It said it was replaced in the actual paperwork, they spent 3 hours to program it. Thanks for the good luck and your help. This was stressful time.

The same issue is occurred on My 2011 X5 35i. It happened twice within two months. BMW dealer replaced battery and IBS but this issue has not been solved yet. How is your X5 after replacing the DME? Does this issue occur again after a long time idling?
Thank you. |

Some of you just happens to unluckily end up with a bad one I suppose, my 35i has been basically trouble free going on 8000 miles now. Took it in once for some weird noise that went away. Any updates OP? I guess all is good?

Interesting thread. I have a 2011 35i Sport with about the same mileage (6750), and have had not one issue. The most major issue I have had has been with the black trim coming apart on the rear bumper after driving over two feet of snow, and they fixed it for free for me.

I use a multi-meter to measure output voltage of the alternator (from Starting-aid Terminal to body ground, idle spead is 600 rpm). The reading is 13.2 VDC. I think the output voltage of the alternator is lower than normal, which causes the battery can't be fully recharged.
Can you guys tell me what the output voltage should be normally (2011 X5 35i)? Last edited by sgcan; 06-11-2011 at 04:18 PM. |

To be honest I've put about 4k miles on it since I posted this thread and haven't had one problem thank God. Maybe I should knock on wood. But the dealer was right the dme solved the problem. The truck runs like a beast so fast and powerful. So I'm glad I kept it.

This issue occurred after you started and kept idling this SUV about one hour. Have you tried to idle it for a while again after the dealer fixed it?

I've idled it for a while in my driveway but to be honest probably not an hour. I'll try and update you all.
