Exclamation The Official San Diego-to-Bimmerfest Caravan Information Thread

Welcome to BimmerBrakes to BimmerFest 2011!!!!!

Just like last year, I will be organizing the San Diego Caravan to Bimmerfest this year. However, this year, this caravan will be sponsored by BimmerBrakes!! That's right. A vendor here. Sponsoring a Caravan to BimmerFest this year. If that isn't awesome, I don't know what is.

Thanks to Anthony, from BimmerBrakes, for the opportunity!

He will be giving us free stuff to give away in the form of a raffle drawing BEFORE we take off. So make sure to get there early to get a ticket!!!

Giving out the tickets from 5:20 am till 5:30 am!! Drawing will take place at 5:40am!!

Although we are still working out the details about what exact route to take, we will still be leaving from the UTC mall, just north of the 52 freeway, at around 06:00AM.

Last year, we had a little over 100 cars, including the ones from our north meet up spot in Carlsbad.

Because the organizer of that event will not be attending this year, there is no one to organize the one in Carlsbad.

If you live above the 56, and driving to UTC is too far/inconvenient, your best bet is to try to get in touch with us so that we know where you are. If enough of you address me with a common location, I can make the announcement that you will meet there, and then meet up with us on the freeway. It worked last year, and it will work this year. All it takes is one phone call to let you know we are 10 minutes away, and you head to the freeway and wait for us.

I will upload this frequently as we make up solid plans.

The official route is:

5 freeway to the 110. We will be joined by other caravans on the way up.

Things you should do/have:
- Wash your car
- Install front plate (a lot of people tend to get tickets for this)
- Gas up
- Check tires
- Pack walkie talkies (huge help regarding cops, traffic, tactical maneuvers involving mini vans, nudes, food and fuel),
- phone charger
- microfiber cloths
- bottled water, snacks, etc.

For the walkie talkies, we will be using Channel 5, so we don't encounter any problems near Camp Penalton.
Please be on time. We can't hang around too long waiting for people running late so please plan ahead a little in case you hit traffic, sleep in too late, etc.

This thread will contain all the necessary information of the caravan and events related to it. It will be updated every time something changes!

Can't wait to see everyone there!!

To those who don't already know, it is going to be on May 14, 2011.

The run through i-74 was cool last year except that once we stopped at the gas station and took off again, everybody got split up where you turn left onto the road parallel to the shopping center because the left turn light sucked. I would recommend that where people turn left (I don't know the name of the road), someone wait along the side of the road and have people park there until the whole caravan is together because that part of the trip sucked because we were all spearated. Otherwise, a cool ride last year.

Exactly.

We made changes to this year's plans so that the people who helped me last year will actually help guide, and not just take off as fast as they can.

If enough people show interest to do it again, we will. If no one mentions anything, we will still do it. The only way we will take the 5 all the way up is if enough people ask me to.

Help spread the word. We gotta make this huge.

Doesn't the 110 turn into city streets? What's the route once it turns into city streets?

I74 Sounds good.

I want to meet up with the SD crowd from Temecula. Are you going to take the 15 North to the I74 over Ortega to the I5 North? If so I can catch up on the I15 in Temecula for the Canyon Run. If not I can catch up on the Ortega at the I5. Which is it?

Is there two oc meets? One person is telling me to meet up at the IKEA off the 405 and now I'm hearing to meet up at the spectrum...

I'm not sure about the OC caravan.

However about us:

We are taking the 5 freeway all the way up to the 110.

We will be joined by caravans on the way there.

Ortega HWY of the 5

I will be waiting for you guys at the Ortega HWY 74 and the 5 fwy in San Juan Capistrano, at 6:45am. That should be a good time to see you guys drive by and joint the caravan.
Any suggestions? For any body else from Temecula or Murrieta interested in taking the canyon run to meet up with SD crowd? Let's make this big....
