6NH Hands-free Facility with USB Interface: PRODUCTION DELAY

I ordered a 2011 X3 35i with a production slot in the first week of June 2011. BMW just told me that there is a microchip shortage for the '6NH Hands-free Facility with USB Interface'. They gave me two options:

Option 1: "If you donít want to do without it: then we must postpone the order. But there is no way to tell how long until this is resolved."

Option 2: "If you donít mind having the car without: then we could order the car without it and proceed. BMW would offer you a compensation for the missing option in the amount of what it costs according to US product library of $270CAD."

They were not clear what the impact is of not having this chip. Is it just the wireless connection to the phone or are there other implications? I also wanted to know if the dealership could install this chip after delivery...as I don't need the option immediately.

I asked them these questions - still waiting for a response.

Any recommendations? I honestly don't use cell phones while I drive...but I don't want to gimp the car for resale if it can't be retroactively installed after delivery. Prudence says wait for the item - but my passion wants the vehicle delivered ASAP!!!

Any thoughts?

For the X3 xdrive 35i US build cars, 6NH is hands free Bluetooth and USB which is standard. It is not an option, so BMW would have to discount on the base MRSP if this is true about the chip shortage. It would personally wait for this option as with more cities/ states in the US and probably Canada going hands free, I wouldn't pass this up and delete. Just imagine the production bottle neck that BMW would have.

For real?????

I find it hard to believe that 6NH is not available b/c as the previous user said, it is standard on EVERY X3 which means that every single car would either have to be made without it (which woudl be stupid b/c this is something they added this year as standard) or they'd haev to get everyone to agree to do without...which again would be crazy. And...considering the fact that the ones which are rolling to dealers are not custom ordered, BMW would have to go on a huge campaign world wide to explain why something they added as standard this year is now not included.

I just don't believe this....I have a feeling that dealers are starting to play games
