jb4 ..yes or no

I was between the dinan stage 2 or the jb4 for my 07 335i coupe no other mods done to the car..i believe i have decided to go with the jb4..my questions are as follows;

any codes being thrown from the motor after the install
is map 1 the best map for a daily driver
do i have to take it out when i take the car to get serviced...i have purchased an extended warranty from another company that is not bmw
is the install as simple as reported
are the gains noticeable

no, yes if no other mods, and yes if you are under warranty.

There is a pass-through mode which makes the JB3/4 inactive and undetectable.
  • Unless they open the ECU box, in which case there it is - a PITA not normally done.
  • Unless they know how to activate the JB4 and do so as a detection test.
Safest to take it out. Hope you don't service often.

You'll quickly become hopelessly addicted to higher maps as performance improves at all speeds. God help you!

There is nothing else that can transform your car so much for so little money like a tune. JB4 is a bargain and works well. Its not super simple to install, but if you can perform basic maintenance on your car, you should be able to install it. Its a bit of inconvenience to have to take it for warranty work, but worth it in my opinion. Best $500 I spent on a car, period.

I believe BMW and Dinan have an "understanding" and Dinan covers warranty issues caused by their product so you wouldnt have to uninstall every service.

agree!! best $550 I have spent on this car! The power gains are noticable right away and even more a few days after the install. If you are using another shop I dont know if you would have to uninstall but what do I know... I am an Insurance broker..lol.

It is possible that the car will throw a tuner detection code, but you can read, display and clear all codes with the JB4 unit.. as well as turn on auto-code clearing for even less involvement.

Map 1 meant for people who want more poer but do not have any supplementary mods to support the tune. Basically for stock cars or those with intakes.

I have always taken mine out for a piece of mind, some don't but that's just laziness. Its near impossible to catch someone with a tune short of them seeing the box.

All tunes must be removed or cleared before dealer visits except BMW installed Dinan, which is stupid expensive

JB4 PnP, or plug and play is very simple and straightforward. Install takes about 30 minutes and is easy, if not a little fiddly.

Cobb AP is easiest, but they do not currently have 2007 model year support. It is in development though, the tune is just recently released and still being added upon.

Gains are EXTREMELY noticeable. Especially with full supporting mods!

2007 335i support for the AP was announced a few weeks ago. It requires the Beta firmware, but I've not seen any issues with it.

Pretty sure (not 100%) that the JB4 does not clear codes,
BT Scanner does

jb4 will not work on the n55 engine (335iS) - there is a JB+ that takes about 2 minutes to install available for your engine. n54 tuning has the info.

the 335is has the n54, so there is not reason why it would not work.

I have a 2010 535i xdrive.. with 90k miles..its not the sports package..so wondering what I should get along with a dual cone intake....The JB3? The JB4? Or the JB+?....I know there's a price difference, but I'm not concern much about the difference in comparison as far as price goes.....just like to know the best for me in regards to gains, easy installment and overall best outcome without no worries of complications...please help...thanks

Misconceptions cleared - JB4 will work on 335is they all have N54 engines. There is an JB4 version for N55 motors. Pure stock 335is can run Map 6 if they have 93 octane fuel available otherwise Map 5. In general for pure stock 335i Map 5 is the best choice. Any fuel mix with E85 whether 335i or 335is Map 5 is the best choice. Fuel mix with 100 octane Map 5 for both 335i & 335is. JB4 will automatically clear all codes. The JB+ is not a very good buy for the 335i & a loser for the 335is. JB3 is obsolete.

+1

The JB4 does clear codes. I have done it a few times and I have a code reader that verified it.
