Questions on Automatic headlight

Hello new X3 owners,

Hope you all enjoyed your new X3 and hopefully I will have mine in May.

I have a few questions on X3's automatic headlight control and hope you could shed some lights:

1. Do you trust the auto mode and use it all the time? What will be exceptions?

2. Any indicator when the headlight is automatically turned on? In other words, could I easily tell if the headlights is on? I found it's not always obvious by looking at road ahead.

Thanks.

I have Auto headlights on my E90 and trust them completely - never a problem. I just leave them in auto mode. Great feature.

Auto headlights have never been a problem and should be standard on all cars. It spoils you when you get a rental and forget to turn the headlights on.

If you select daytime running lights in your setup there is an icon on your cluster.

Have had auto-headlights for years. Turned it on, forgot about it, and have never had a problem. It DOES spoil you when you get a rental and this feature is not there.

There is a green indicator on the console that lets you know the lights are on.

Thank you for quick replies and so glad to know that you are all very positive about auto headlight, :-)

Claylake, could you elaborate a bit on the indicator? Does the icon indicate DRL or headlight or both?

"If you select daytime running lights in your setup there is an icon on your cluster."

Ideally, I hope I could tell when auto light switches from DRL to headlight.

Thanks.
