CCC failure during updates
Hey Gang
So I speak to a local dealer about getting my CCC updated to incorporate MP3 playback and a host of other updates. Dude tells me that during the update process he has seen entire CCC units fry out and become completely inoperable and in the end it's up to the owner to replace it. Plus i have 3rd party warranty that might now cover this issue. So now i'm a little nervous about getting the update done. The last time my CCC was updated was back in 2006 so I know I'm due for one but has anyone heard or experienced this issue?

Yep. I think it's a standard spiel the SA's have to tell the customer. They have to cover their a$$ because I guess some have fried in the past.
I had mine updated without any problems.

Mine updated without any problems as well. The difference is that if it is SOFTWARE-related due to the update, they will obviously take care of it - but if it is hardware-related, they no longer want to pay for it after it has happened a few times to them at their expense. So it is now a part of their standard disclaimer for CCC-updates.
Even still, if it does happen, you might be able to gripe enough to your local dealer for them to take care of you. Depends on your relationship with them, but as far as I understand, it is unlikely to happen.

they told me the same story and that I had to sign a release before they updated mine to play MP3s.
![]() I backed off. Since I have satellite radio, I didn't see the need to take that chance. |

Well, if it fries then you have an excuse to go to the CIC instead.

When I had my IPOD unit installed in 2006 or 2007 (I can't remember), the CCC on my 2006 650 had to be replaced. Maybe it "fried" during the update process. They did have a lot of trouble making the updates and had to keep the car for a couple of days to get everything sorted. Finally, they said that the CCC had failed and they replaced it under warranty. The car was only 1 year old at the time. FYI....at the time they told me is was not the first time they had seen a CCC failure and I took away that it was a fairly common problem on the cars. Fair warning.
