Just brought my in for the second time yesterday regarding the squeaky seat. This time they made somewhat of a difference, and it is not as annoying, but it still creeks and to me it is still unacceptable for a 2012 BMW! I'm writing an email to Service Director as we speak demanding a new seat/frame. What would you all do? Is this being too picky?

Yes, please keep us posted. I have to take mine in soon (before 600 miles) for my 9,000 mile service and to refill the urea for the diesel. If you find the fix for the seat, I can work on having mine fixed too.

Just got an email this morning from my dealer saying that they ordered a new seat frame from Germany and it will take approx 10-15 days to arrive. Hopefully a new seat frame puts this issue away for good! Will let you know how the fix is in a few weeks.

Has anybody else found a fix for this other than replacing the seat frame? My new seat frame is still on its way from Germany. Perhaps Germany has "non squeaky" seat frames? I never had a problem with my 335i seat squeaking. I'm wondering if it's a problem with a US supplier of seats since all of the "X" series are built in Spartanburg.

Update on seat - after the first attempt to repair the seat by lubricating and tightening all pivot points, which of course only solved the problem for less then 5 miles, I returned it the following Monday. Based on the second repair the seat issue seems to have been resolved (for now). Here is what they noted in the repair statement:

STILL HAS A SQUEEKY DRIVERS SEAT
TECH REMOVED SEAT FROM CAR, THEN REMOVED THE LEATHER AND TEH MORE-> PADDING FROM THE SEAT BOTTOM, FOUND THE TOLERANCE BETWEEN
ADJUSTED THE TOLERANCE AND VERIFIED NOISE WAS GONE. 5299000, WT FOR REMOVAL OF PADDING

John, how's your new frame holding out? Did they make you wait a few weeks for it to arrive from Germany? I'm patiently waiting for my new seat frame on its way from Germany. Coburger, it looks like your dealer actually put some time into fixing this the second time. My second fix attempt worked for about 2 days, then it was back. I don't trust any other fix at this point. It's funny how the dealer said they asked BMW and they've never heard of this problem! I bet they can't say that anynore after authorizing an order for a new seat frame for me from Germany. Yikes, that's got to cost some $$$!

Our 2011 X5 35d's leather squeaks like crazy!

Question. How can the seat frame cause the leather to squeak? I thought the squeaking was coming from the leather rubbing on the plastic on the outside of the seat, not the inside.
I'd love to have ours fixed, but my dealer is very hesitant to fix anything they consider a nuisance.

They are treating it like it were a cheap pair of shoes. You will neeed to explain the difference. The dealer gets paid to fix it. Somehow if you were payng they would be willing to fix it. When the dealer fixed mine they told me it was an $1100.00 part. My attitude was then a little more care should have taken at the time of manufacture.

Nick - at First it sounded like the leather was the cause of the noise but after further investigation (pushing down or putting weight on the seat) it became apparent that the seat springs were the culprits. The sounds, at least for me were similar to a bad office chair when rocking in it. Keith - I am still keeping my fingers crossed and as of today, I have been enjoying the sounds of my 5.0 turbo engine without the side affects of an old rocking chair. :-)

My SA just called me and told me that there will be some squeaking because it's a NEW car. WTF.

Also, the technician did not hear the squeak loud enough to warranty a repair.

Can someone post the exact part number etc. I have a 2011 X5 35d

I am a new member and I just bought a BMW X5 2011. After a thousand kilometers, my seat began squeaking. Went to the dealership : they lubricated some "joints" , tighted some nuts and, got my X5 back. After 50 miles, the squeaking was back again. Called the dealership : he said that BMW will post a technical bulletin on this. At this point, dealership do not know how to solve that problem....

I have a 2011 X5d with a creaky drivers seat. Took it it in last month and the dealer couldn't find the source of the issue and just ordered a new seat frame. Part was on backorder but it's going in on Monday for the replacement. I'm lucky to have a no-nonsense dealer.

I think we are talking about two different squeaks. Mine clearly squeaks from the leather rubbing on the plastic at the base of the seats...it does this anywhere in the car that leather rubs on plastic. I know this because it is quite easy to duplicate. I tried leather conditioner once, it was quiet for about 3 or 4 days..then it came back.

Smile Seat Frame Replaced = Issue resolved

I got my X5d back today with a new seat frame. The creaking / squeaky seat is now gone (Hopefully for good!!). Here's the comments on the RO:

DIAGNOSED VEHICLE ON 6/11/11 AT 3281 MILES. FOUND SEAT WILL MAKE A NOISE COMING COMING FROM BOTTOM SEAT FRAM WHEN ROCKING BACK AND FORTH IN SEAT. CHECKED ALL BOLTS FOR TIGHTNESS ON SEAT, NO LOOSE BOLTS FOUND. FOLLOWED TEST PLAN AM5201_00012-FRONT SEAT, INTERFERENCE NOISES. TEST PLAN STATES TO REMOVE SEAT AND INSPECT FOR CHAFING MARKS. CHAFING MARKS FOUND AT INDICATED POINT IN SEAT FRAME. TEST PLAN STATE TO REPLACE SEAT FRAME DIAGCODE: D5210_MXG000V0_46_002. REPLACED SEAT FRAME AND CHECKED FOR NOISES. NO NOISES NOW HEARD. ALL NOW OK.

From this description, this appears to be a known issue with where the seat becomes chafed due to excessive seat frame play. No "band-aid" fixes here. Would recommend my dealer to anyone in the Ohio area.

I had heard what I thought was this squeaky seat problem but after adjusting my seat (unrelated reasons) there is no more sound. Maybe something different but I am breathing a sigh of relief (and knocking on wood) as it seems like a painful experience to deal with it

Has anyone tried using a bit of "gummi pflege" to address the squeaks? 11 years ago when I had an e52 it was suggested to pick up a tube from the BMW dealer, applying it sparingly in places that squeaked. Worked like a champ, and certainly lasted longer than leather conditioners, etc. It looks like BMW no longer makes/carries it, but a few equivalents can be found via Google. I have the old tube in the bottom of a toolbox, I think, and it seems to be the kind of gunk that lasts forever.

The comfort seat in my 2011 X5d doesn't squeak while I'm driving, but it does squeak every now and then when getting in and out. It seems to have started with the high heat that we've had here over the past few weeks, but it may also be due to the car hitting 8 months and approaching 10k miles. In any case, I will certainly try to address it myself before making (possibly repeated) trips to the dealership.

I got the seat track replaced on my 2011 X5d on 02SEP. After 700 miles, the seat is still quite. The part was listed as 1 52-10-7-250-059 ELECTRICAL SEAT MECHANISM, L:521050. Cost was 992.15 + 224.38 labor. This was the 4th repair attempt. The first two visits the dealer "lubricated" the seat, the repairs lasted only a few miles. On the third attempt they decided to replace the seat track.

Mine is driving me nuts, shows up in slow city traffic - bumps and braking. Been in once for repair but squeaks came back with in a few hours. Going back next week for round 2...

the seat back of both the driver and passenger seat rock but the seat frame and base are solid (rail and pivot bolt replaced and seat torqued down to spec). is there an SIB for the seat back or support portion? it is quite annoying especially with a child pushing them around while driving.
