UNBELIEVABLY Bad Dealer Experience
I had a scheduled 2 hour appointment today to pick up my 35d. I was looking forward to it all weekend.
I get there, the CA shows me the truck- IT LOOKS GREAT. We go back to his desk to do the paperwork, etc. He confirms for me the last lease numbers that we negotiated (and were in writing) and I said 'That is correct'. He continues typing and then walks away and says 'There is a problem - I need to go work it out'. I have him paged 50 minutes later and he comes back with the 'Used Car Sales' manager (not sure why!!) and they tell me that there was an error with the money factor and the payment would be $80 per month higher. THey said they'd discount the car an additional $500 but that the payment would still be higher. I said no. They said sorry. I asked for a ride home, they obliged. CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS????????? Interesting tidbit: for the last 2 weeks all the CA has been saying to me is how hard it is for anyone to get an X5 these days, all the allotments are gone, they are losing sales, no diesels left, etc.....I guess they wanted to get more $$ from someone else! I have owned or leased 2- 3 series, 1- 5 Series and 1- X3. I CANNOT believe that a BMW dealer would do this to me!! I guess I am way too naive. I am now working on my letter to BMW.

Until I figure out what I am going to do about this, I don't want to post the name of the dealer. I need to calm down first.

My dealer added 400 dollars to my FINAL agreed price and started saying the same BS - diesels are hard to get etc. He was actually asking 1000 over but we settled for 400 after bickering and haggling. Apparently, the price is NOT FINAL until you take delivery and sign papers.
I love my X5 but the dealer ruined the experience. When I cancelled the tire/wheel warranty - they refunded all the money but kept the Tax on it and haven't returned my call after leaving 6 voice messages. After selling a 55K car, why would someone cheap out on 120 dollars tax. Can we complain to BBB about this 120 dollars. I don't like such unethical/cheap stuff even if it is for 5 dollars. |

They admitted it was their mistake. They had used the BMW Loyalty factors and not the standard factors. An honest mistake, but their 'error' would cost me nearly $3000 over the life of the lease! That is about 5% of the cost of the car.

You can complain to the BBB about anything.

I agree that people make mistakes....
...but I expect that they will correct them. If I had known that the truck would have cost that much more, I probably wouldn't have ordered it. I was very much on the fence with a Cayenne V6 and finally made the decision for the X5 in part because of cost.

UPDATE:
The dealer has called and has offered to honor the terms of the original deal. While I am hugely frustrated with the time that I wasted today, I appreciate that upon futher thought that they did the right thing.

If the story is true, you are now getting something you aren't entitled to (the OLP rates). This incentive for existing BMW owners is a "gift" from BMWFS, not the dealer.
If the story is indeed true, the dealer is really doing right by you by giving you a deal you have not "earned". Poor form to bash them here. And yes, they probably could have made a much bigger profit by selling "your" X5 to someone else. Props to them for doing the right thing. Note that the "if's" above are because this is the first I've heard of an OLP on X5's. Sent from my HTC Inspire using BimmerApp

uh, he has had four bmws, and based on his sig currently owns one. Why would he not qualify for owner loyalty rates?

My experience tells me that dealers are in business to make the most money they can possibly get away with and do the right thing second or third or last.
I wonder if the other guy they had on the hook for your incoming X5 would not pay them what they wanted? REALLY doubt their good will kicked in overnight sadly. |

I haven't owned a Mercedes since 2003, so I would not expect MB to give me an owner loyalty rate.

I probably would have gone down to the Porsche store and bought a Cayenne! I used to use the Mtn View BMW store because it was closer to me but now I go to the BMW store on Stevens Creek.

While that might be correct, there are some businesses that believe doing the right thing makes them the most money in the long-term.

They had me sit there for nearly an hour with no contact or info as to what was going on and then the used car manager simply walks away when I say that I won't pay the new price- no apologies, nothing. At least the CA emailed me later to say that they'd honor the original number. I have to give him credit for that. But it still makes me uncomfortable spending this much money at a dealership that I don't trust.

@MAPC - I am very curious about the dealer you used (and I think I know which one it is)... I had the similar bad experience with Californian dealer a few days ago back, I am waiting for the dealer to reward it, but anyway... This is not how I expected the purchase of new BMW looks like...

Assuming there are no other dealers nearby. I have 3 within reasonable distance to me.
