The belt my dealer installed on my d is a Gates part number K040325.
I ran it about 125 miles or so today in the 100 degree temp, and so far so good! I am so happy to (hopefully) have this issue behind me, it has delayed my planned install of the JBD. I'm going to keep running it for a few more days to verify the belt sqeal is resolved, then I'll install the JBD. Right now I am planning to get a dyno test both before and after the JBD install, if there is any interest, I might share the dyno test results. I'm just leaving to go go for a spin down some of my favorite twisty roads, I really do enjoy driving this car!

I pick up my d from the dealer tomorrow, will report back what belt they put on the car. FWIW, the SA told me today that the original belt had stretched 20mm compared to the replacement belt BMW shipped them. On a side note, the 335i convertible loaner has been a blast to roost around town. Certainly not getting the d mileage, but it's been driven in a 'spirited' manner

I'm on the fence about this event. Between the hot weather and the expected 1500 cars, I am not sure I am "up" for it. If I do attend, I'l probably drive my Z, so you might be the only one with a d.

I am going to be out at Summit Point that weekend, I'm really looking forward to seeing how the d handles out on the track.

I'm planning on stopping by Bimmerfest, but I'll have my 89 325is and not the d. But back to the squealing problems..even though it's only in the low 70's this morning my d decided to let out a good squeal while backing out of the garage. Have to take it in one of these days...

After replacing the belt on mine, the squeal has gone away and has not returned as yet. We are consistently seeing >100 degree days, and I leave the AC on all the time. Hopefully, the aftermarket belt has fixed the issue.

My d had the a/c belt replaced this week. The replacement belt is BMW p/n 64-55-7-793-608. Also of note, SA mentioned the original belt measured 20mm longer than the replacement belt....they were unable to tell me if the original was stretched or if it was just a belt that is too long. Car has been quiet so far...

All of these belt replacements make me hopeful my car will be built next week with the proper one. Best of luck to all of you who have had yours replaced already that the fix is permanent.

Folks, thanks for keeping us posted on this. My 335d was just built last week and I pick it up in 3 weeks at the Welt. I can't wait to break in this engine in the Alps, Black Forest and on the Ring. Video and pix to follow.......

Best of luck, should be lots of fun. Hey and while you are there, ask BMW what if anything they are doing about figuring out what is causing this issue.

Just remember to keep the video low key on the ring, it is not allowed, but lots of people do it, I did. Have a great trip!

Reported this issue on my last service, of course could not be reproduced, but now happens every afternoon on hot days - need to do the video recording and take it in again - kinda embarrassing to drive out of the lot at work in a new-ish ~$50K car squealing like a banshee;-), should be in BMW's interest to find a perm fix, it clearly is not an isolated problem anymore.

Legal...
Shouldn't have to record anything...a number of PUMA cases have been filed now and BMW engineers are FULLY aware of the problem. Have your SA take a look at this forum (mine did) and it might speed them up fixing your belt issue. RISKYBZ |

Guys, maybe a stupid question but is it only the 335D that is experiencing this problem or is it also on the X5 D or other gas models?
![]() After all it is just a freaking fan belt! ![]() Mine has squealed like a pig maybe 3 times over last month or two. Usually a hot, warm day, goes away shortly but really loud.

Can we have a poll going here?

I finally captured "the squeal" on video as I was leaving the house this morning. Mine only squeals occasionally, and of course anytime I had remembered to take a video it refused to squeal. Until this morning! Time to make that service appointment now.. http://gallery.me.com/gbouton1#100105

Just to avoid misinformation, belt in question is not a fan belt it is compressor belt - that all it drives. It is sill "freaking"
My belt was not replace, I was told by SA that original v-belt replacement was put on hold and is on back order state wide.

I just got mine back too! They replaced the A/C compressor and V-Belt. I hope the issue is gone, but only time will tell! So with that said, I installed my JBD shortly after @ 50% and couldn't be happier! Enjoy it!

I've just now starting hearing this on my car (since Saturday, and every day since, including this morning on the way to work). It doesn't have to be from a cold start, though. I drove the car about 10 miles, stopped for about an hour, got back in the car, and heard it. I've had it happen with both the AC on and off, as well.

Belt replaced
Yep, They replaced my belt with a Korean made 325K-4 same size as earlier post. From what I can find this is 5mm shorter than stock. So it must be that the diesel is stretching these belts a little more than the engineers bargained for. Well this belt only costs $9 at any autopart store so bonus for us diesel owners, cheaper than OEM replacements.
