Idling issues

Hi does anyone have the same problem with their E34 M5?- If I'm driving in traffic especially on hot days my car seems to idle irratically. This is an intermitent problem. I have had the idle control valve & airflow meter checked and they seem fine. I have covered approx. 125K miles and its manufacture date 1989. Any suggestions would help.

Who checked your idle control valve & airflow meter? Was it a person that is good with older model BMW's?

I had the same issue with mine. I took it to the mechanic and they couldn't figure it out so they kept changing parts, luckily at no cost over my quote, and eventually just ended up having to replace old hoses. (Vacuum issue) The only bad thing was after that my coolant pump started throwing fluid everywhere, so maybe have them replace the pump after they pin point the problem. Specifically my car would be idling lower than 750 rpms then just shoot up to 4000 rpms and dump then stall if I didn't start driving, say at a stop light. Very embarrassing... Maybe you have a different issue?
