Don't mean to insult your intelligence if you already know this, but you do realize that it only closes by the button on the hatch, not by the remote or button in the front?

If I'm understanding your writing correctly, you're opening the rear hatch with either the button on the remote or the button in the front of the vehicle. Then, once the hatch is open, you can't get it back down. I am just pointing out that the hatch will only close if you press the close button on the hatch. If you are trying to close the hatch using the remote or the button in the front of the vehicle, it's not going to close. Last edited by slevit1; 04-27-2011 at 09:24 AM. |

Maybe he got someone to recode so that it would close by pushing the button in the controls or the remote, and that it suddenly dont work any more.
Unless he's just got the car literally this morning and don't know.

Try closing it by hand. See if it latches. If it does not then you need to take it in. Mine did that the day I brought it home...

How did it feel to be on the highway with the hatch open?

Didn't have to get on the highway. Also the hatch is heavy enough and will stay down if you drive carefully.

Just a thought, have you checked the lower part of the tail gate to make sure it's fully closed? I had a similar issue where the lower tailgate was not fully locked in place and the hatch would not close when I pushed the button.

The English word for this is Priapism. It is a common issue when folks take too much Viagra. If this has continued for more than 8 hours, you need to see your physician ("medico") immediately. Buena suerte, a migo!

Hope you figured it out. If the tailgate is not latched securely, the liftgate will not close. My Jeep had the function for the driver to close the hatch from inside. The X5 does not have that function. Does anyone know if the tailgate is really worthy to be sat on? The guy at the carwash jumped up on it to clean the inside of the hatch glass. I thought it was just to keep my groceries from rolling out of the back onto the garage floor.

Rear Hatch
Took delivery of 2012 X5 on Friday and had same hatch issue. Once I re-shut the lower tailgate FIRMLY, everything seems to be fine.

It can be done throught coding (use your remote to open close hatch). If you are willing to spend sometime installing software and learning how to code plus spending $80 for a K+DCAN cable then you can code it yourself and you can also code other features. If not then find somebody local who can do it for you maybe for a fee. It will only take about 5 mins. to do it. Coding itself will only take about a minute as long as they know which module and parameter to change. There are more coders who own e90's so try and search a local e90 owner who have it. Go to the e90post dot com.
