Need advice on accessories...

I just ordered my X3. I was thinking about getting mudflaps (good to get or not?) and chrome trim on the tail pipes. What about wheel locks (live in L.A.)? Are any of these even a good idea to get? Anything else I should think about? My CA said he has never seen mudflaps on X3s and doesn't think it is necessary. I do want to get the chrome trim on the tail pipes. I don't like how dirty the standard ones look.

Does anyone know if the $500 can be used toward the extended warranty?

no - only the accessories on the bulletin emailed to the participants of the event. Also must be bought from dealer who did the event you attended.

The email I received after participating does not mention what accessories are eligible:

"We are glad you were able to attend The BMW X3 Difference Event. Now that you’ve experienced the all-new X3’s ready power, sharp handling and spacious, beautifully crafted interior, you can see the difference between this Sports Activity Vehicle® and the competition.
To thank you for your participation in The BMW X3 Difference Event, we are pleased to present you with this exclusive $500 X3 Accessory Incentive Certificate. When you purchase or lease a new 2011 X3 and take delivery by June 30, 2011, use this Certificate to personalize your new vehicle with up to $500 of select BMW X3 Accessories – from handsome light alloy wheels to advanced electronics, roof rack systems and much more. Each is designed and crafted to the same exacting standards as the all-new X3 itself."

The fine print of the certificate:

"$500 X3 Accessory Incentive Certificate is non-transferable, and can be redeemed only by the participant who attended The BMW X3 Difference Event. Accessory Incentive Certificate is valid with the purchase or lease of a 2011 model year X3, from the day of event attendance through June 30, 2011. The $500 Accessory Incentive Certificate is valid for a one-time use only. It must be presented and redeemed at the BMW SAV center where the new X3 vehicle was purchased, and can be applied to up to $500 of select Original BMW Accessories, excluding labor and taxes. Offer is valid for new vehicle purchase only. Offer is not valid for the purchase of BMW NA Company Vehicles, retired loaner vehicles, EPP vehicles, Center Employee Leases or European Delivery vehicles. Only one offer per household or per vehicle may be redeemed. Certificate is not redeemable for cash. Please see your authorized BMW SAV center for complete list of eligible BMW X3 accessories."

You should have a pdf of the accessories with that email
If not, your dealer can pull up the marketing bulletin V12-0204-005
