How to obtain production status?

Hello all,

I ordered an X3 28i on May 7th. The sales rep quoted me with a June delivery but didn't provide any further details on the timeline, just that I would hear from him with an update.

Should I have been given a production number during this visit? The BMW website allows you to check on the status of your order but only after entering a VIN or production number. Is the dealership provided said production number when they place the order?

Thanks for any and all responses.

Yes, your dealer has your production number. Call them to get it. You can then call the 800# or log onto the internet to track you vehicle. The 800# is far more up to date than tracking online. Have fun!

Is this applicable to orders in Canada?

Got the production number from my dealer. Checked the website and learned that my X3 is still awaiting production. I guess it has only been ~ 2 weeks since placing order.

I gave the number a call and got a production completion date. I wonder why they don't put this on the website. I think it would be cool to be able to see where in production the car is. I'd rather see a few stills as it moves along the line than the finished video (I'm getting an X3, I'm not sure if they make the videos for all of the other models).

I placed my order March 29th, 2011 as my car included the M-sport (4/11 SOP) and the power tailgate (delayed motor), and I entered production today. The 1-800 number is saying completion date of May 27th, 2011, but I know from my 7 BMW factory tours that production is only 40 hrs. I have a June 23, 2011 PCD followed by a 2 day M-School at the PC.

I also ordered my X3 on May 7th and received a production number on the day of the order. My CA told me that my car would be produced the 21st week of the year. i just received an update from my CA saying that May 27th is the estimated day of production. Was hoping it was the first day of the 21st week not the last so they would send the car to the dealership by month's end. Doesn't seem likely with that date of production. Crossing my fingers everything goes smoothly. Wonder when my delivery date would be at this point.......

Amazing. I was told the quickest would be 4 weeks but with the high demand, 6-8 weeks is more realistic.

I think you placed your order later than I did and you are already done! Which dealership did you go with? Mine just started production this Monday. Another 3 weeks! Crap!

I was also given the 21st week of year which is this week. Since Monday, my status has been in production. Yours went really quickly!

yup got my video. was abit disappointed it was only 3-4min long....

estimate time to get from SC to CA is 2 weeks (not sure why? is there only 1 shipment per week? going by water or train?)...then another week from LA to SF.

dc....when did you originally place the order. Mine was officially on order on the BMW website on 5/12. It remains at that status to this day. Wondering when i can expect it to change. I thought waiting would be easy but its driving me crazy!! hahahaha

my dealer didnt tell me when, but said it was slated for production week 21.

when i inquired about it, he said by putting a customer name on it, it tells the factory to prioritize the order before others...

waiting sux, i been calling to check everyday almost. its been sitting at "the port waiting for vessel" for past 2-3 days...

Just called the 800 number. Still 'awaiting production with no scheduled production date'. It has been three weeks now. CAS, how in the world did you get yours so quickly? lol
