A dealer gets so many X3 production slots per month. He knows this 60 days in advance. If he has used all his up (meaning sold), he has to wait for BMW to give him one, usually the next month available. If he has not filled the slot and has ordered the car "standard" for stock, he can, up to a point, change the specs and put your name on it. So if someone gets one right away, he got one of the "open" slots the dealer had.

I went to status 112 (scheduled for production) on May 4th, 2011 and went to status 150 (production started) around May 16th, 2011 The car went to status 151 (body shop started) on May 24th, 2011. My X3 was status 155 (production completed) on May 26th, 2011. So that was around 3 weeks from 112 to 155. 151 to 155 took around 9 days. It was a priority 1 order, like all of ours are, and had the power tailgate and HUD(heard about this recently) which have been delayed options.
On the positive side, customers in the UK are waiting up to 6 months for their X3's.

Interestingly, my X3 (not scheduled for production until early July at least) is listed as Space Grey when I put in the production number. However, my order clearly says Black Sapphire. Is this just a quirk? Perhaps it was originally meant to be Grey before my CA requisitioned the slot for me?

"your order" what? from the dealer? ask for a printout from them on their communication with BMW that the car is as you ask...most importantly, if this continues thru mid June, call them right away as they are painting it about then...

I did get the printed order from the CA and it does say Black. Will continue to monitor and interject if it doesn't change before mid-June or so, thanks.

Hi gang! I ordered my car in April with a CA in NOCAL. He told me I'd have a June production date since May's dates were all taken. Been watching the website anxiously and saw last week that my car went into production and was completed as of last Friday. Since Saturday the 800 number (which I found on this message board, didn't get it from my CA) has said that the car is "awaiting transport to the port of exit."
Today's Tuesday! How long does it take to get on the train? What's the end point in SOCAL? How long will it take to get up to the Bay Area? Unfortunately, my CA has been less than forthcoming with information and I have the $500 coupon from the X3 Comparison Event that I need to use by June 30! I'm not going to lose that money! I saw that someone listed some numbers that indicated various statuses of production/delivery etc. Where does one get those? I assume the CA. Sorry to rant. I am excited to get the car but also frustrated at the lack of communication from my CA. I'm tempted to call the GM at the dealership and have a chat. May still do that in the next few days. Car to come will be: X3, 28i, Vermillion Red, Sand Beige interior, Fine Line Wood, all Pkg except DHP, premium stereo, APPS, mud flaps, bed liner. Not so patiently waiting!! |

you are not going to lose that money - if you contracted and have a prod # you will be able to use it anytime - trust me - I ran a part of the tour. You just had to have paperwork done for ordering by 6/30 - not delivery. i really don't think there is anything the CA can tell you now.

trust me , you're fine...if the dealer is ready to deliver and you will not take delivery, because you are pi$$ing around, yeah , you got problems , but if you are trying as best you can and the car is not simply not there as of 6/30 - you are OK. .That's std legal discalimer stuff...BMWNA is made up of people just like you and one call by the sales manager/gen mgr to his NA area manager and they will do the right thing.....

I took delivery of my 1st order in plenty of time to use the coupon, however, now that I'm waiting for my re-order to be produced, I won't have it until the end of July. Hopefully there will be no issues trying to use the coupon since the situation is a little strange.

Like I said, have the Gen mgr there in K-zoo pave the way now with his area manager.

Thanks for the info! I've been discourage since Saturday. My car is still sitting in SC "awaiting transport to point of exit." Every day the same message.
Yes, I'm being impatient! I'll go sulk in a corner now.
