BMW X3 xDrive 3.0d M Sport

Photos of my UK spec X3 in Vermillion Red with Oyster Nevada Leather and Fineline Wave wood trim. The car has an automatic gear box, panoramic sunroof, visibility package and professional media package. Only travelled 500 miles but car already exceeding expectations.

My other car is a three year old (7000 miles!) 125i convertible in Cashmere Silver recently fitted with BMW M sport body kit. (cannot get M sport in UK in this colour as original spec).

Great pictures Ian - I've gone for the same paint/leather combo, delivery not till January though. I went for the professional media package without really seeing it; are you happy with it, or still trying to find out how it works?!

Professional media package

Hi Angus

Chose the colour because we had silvers & greys before and not too keen on black or white - slightly worried what it would like in the flesh but it looks fantastic particularly in bright sunlight.
Still finding my way around the systems but it all seems to work logically. Have just set up the BMW on line service so can view news, sport, weather etc on the screen. The system comes with the integral hard drive so have loaded all 1300 songs from my ipod - no worries now about trying to change cd's on the move! The professional package also comes with the bigger screen so can split to show, for example, maps & media. My Blackberry phone connects effortlessly as soon as I start the car.
I have had several BMW's over the years including X5's and rate this X3 one of the best.
The finish on the car is almost perfect, the only 'damage' being some very minor scratches to the wood trim around the gear lever for which the dealer has already ordered a replacement trim.
Carefully running in at the moment but can feel the power - the automatic gearbox is excellent with no perception of changes apart from the rev counter - can't wait to try the various sport settings.
Shame about the long delivery with yours but it will be worth the wait - we ordered ours in January 2011 and, according to the dealer, it is one of the first MSports in the UK
Ian

Hi Ian,

I had the same views about getting away from silvers and greys into a proper colour, and glad you are pleased with the choice. Got to be bold in this life!
The hard drive with the professional package was a draw for me, although the capacity is not stated anywhere in the sales literature - I would ideally want to store about double what you have on, but not a big deal. Are you aware of the introduction of RTTI (real time traffic information) in Europe this autumn? It talks of only being available for the professional package, but don't know if it would be available as a retrofit for your vehicle. Typically for BMW, not a lot of detail, but it will be a subscription service, and my guess is that it would be pretty pricey unless you travel for a living.
Glad to hear you are pleased with your car, and jealous that you have an MSports - mine is just the bog standard diesel, which will be a major come down from the Z4 I had until a few weeks ago! All the same, very much looking forward to it.

Angus

Hard Drive

Hi Angus

I have checked and after loading the 1300 songs there is 64% of the hard drive memory still free so you will be able store all of yours OK.

RTTI is going to be a priced option for new and existing professional navigation systems as part of the Connected Drive contract but you will need a smart phone with Bluetooth. No information on price as yet though.

We test drove the 2.0d before ordering this car. It had plenty of power and, of course, the much better fuel economy so I was tempted to go for it. However I had a 3.0d five series at the time and felt that I might miss the extra oomph. However I don't think you will be disappointed.

Regards

Ian

Thanks Ian, that's good news all round then. I just hope RTTI isn't too expensive, as it will be a 'must have' option I think!

I've had a couple of drives in the 2.0d, and yes its pretty lively, and so happy with the choice. I've gone for the automatic as well, just got to sit and twiddle my thumbs for another five months! A shame they couldn't have predicted the demand, and stepped up production to match it - they obviously got it right in the States.

Regards, Angus

First of all, Red and Oyster is an excellent choice, considering that is what I chose even prior to seeing these great pics.

After ordering, and then coming to see the pics posted above, I expected to see my car with the interior and exterior looking closer to that of poster X3MD80 (who lives in California) than that of poster Ian Sanford, who lives in the UK.

I took delivery of my 28i today, and the exterior and interior trim are closer to Ian's color (colour?) scheme than that of X3MD80. The window trim is black, and everything inside from the waist down is black (the knee panels on the dash are black, as contrasted with those shown in X3MD80's photos). I don't if I like one over the other, but I thought it would be worthy of mention, in the event anyone is looking to order Vermillion Red with the Oyster Leather interior. In my opinion, both look great!

The one lingering question, which will not haunt me, is that I opted not to get roof rails (because the brushed aluminun would have stood out poorly against the red body color), but since all of the other exterior trim was in black, would the roof rails also have been? (I know if I got some sport/M package or another, they would have been black, but I was not going to pay for such additional package(s).

Probably bad form, responding to my own post, but one other aspect that I did not pay close attention to was the standand/stock wheels on my X3. I ordered only the Premium Package and a couple of a la carte options (e.g., Xenon headlights). The wheels are faiirly pedestrian looking. This is not a big concern to me, as I do not care much what the car looks like sitting in a parking garage or in my driveway, i bought it for the BMW feel in an SUV?SAV (whavever) type car. But if you do care about the static appearance, please pay attention to what wheels you are getting with whatever configuration you order. There are some nicer looking wheels than what I have.
tI will try to get my son to take some post-worthy pics, once the weather clears up here a little.t
