Lufthansa 2 for 1

Is there a special phone number that I need to call to get the BMW 2 for 1 deal or just call Lufthansa's general number and tell them I am doing a ED?

Whats the process?

I just called Luft earlier today and shifted my flight from a August to early Sept and shaved $600 off the total price of two tix. BTW - Lufthansa's rates go "off peak" after August 28th (2011).

There's a wealth of info in this forum; don't hesitate to use the SEARCH function.

Thanks Ted, seeing as how I have been a member 3 years longer than you, I know how the search button works.

In other news Lufthansa quoted me $1470 for my flight and $550 for the "free flight.". Cant change my dates as I have the date set for pickup in Munich, so will be using another airline. Apparently "off peak" doesnt apply to flying into Munich during Oktoberfest.

The best price we got was from Air Canada: Boston to Toronto, Toronto to Munich. Slightly over $3,000 for three of us. British Airways wanted over $10,000.

Those are pretty good prices for Oktoberfest plus currently with Oil being very expensive. You can reserve on Lufthansa with a production number and then you don't have to buy the tickets until a month prior to your departure. If the price is lower by that time they will give you the lower price, or you can cancel them if you find a lower price somewhere else.

AgsWin, I'm sorry that you felt my response was condescending; that wasn't my intention. It seemed like you asked a very routine and wiki-esque question. Maybe I should've ended my response with a "" to show some friendly humor. My bad.

Also, just because I'm new to 'Fest doesn't mean I'm a newbie to automotive user forums and etiquette. I've got thousands of posts on Audiworld plus a dozen (or so) tech articles/DIY threads -- and I'm very proud of those contributions.

BTW - congrats on finding a cheap airfare with Continental. It looks like you are saving yourself $100 or so. I've taken that flight from NWK to MUC on Cont'L. To be honest, Lufthansa offers you a much better experience in/out of Germany; our American carriers just pale in comparison.

If you're willing to cough up an extra $1k or so per person, Lufthansa has introductory airfares (I think through September) on business class on the A380 flights between JFK and FRA. If you don't mind connecting (it's a 50-minute flight FRA>MUC), it's an interesting alternative.

AFAIK, the Lufthansa biz class seats are the same as on other planes, only the first-class gets a brand-new "suite". And LH's biz class seats are a bit dated compared to the competition.

But still beats coach! They are also flying the A380 from SFO to FRA soon.

Exactly -- and I intend to take advantage of the lounges (especially the Welcome lounge at FRA). FYI, biz class on the domestic leg (FRA-MUC) is a conventional seat with no extra legroom; the only difference is that you're guaranteed to have the middle seat empty.

A380 service has actually already started between SFO / FRA. I'm picking up my new 2012 740Li at the Welt on 13 September -- just a few days before Oktoberfest kicks off. Since I'm an American Express Platinum Card holder, I was able to use their two-for-one International Travel Benefit. I got two business class seats on LH for the price of one. It was a little on the spendy side ($6K round trip) but was a steal when you consider two people are flying in business class for that price. This will be my first ED, so I wanted it to be special.

We're flying into FRA on the A380 11 Sept (arriving morning of 12 Sept) then hopping to MUC on an A320. Delivery at the Welt is at 11:40AM the following morning and I'm really looking forward to it. From there, it's on to Switzerland, Italy and Monaco for two weeks of vacation. Dropping off car in FRA then flying back to SFO.

I'm a Platinum cardholder, too, but paying the promotional business class fare for two tickets was less than one business class unrestricted ticket that the Card requires for the freebie, especially when you add in the fees that the Card doesn't cover.

I agree about wanting it to be special. Not just for me -- my companion on this trip is my father, who's 81. His trip is a Father's Day gift from my sisters and me. (Don't picture a frail, withering old man. In the last two years, he's learned to drive a jet ski and completed the One Day ///M School in Spartanburg!)

You got a great deal then. Since I'm booking so far in advance, I wanted the ability to cancel without penalty. Out of curiosity, how much cheaper were two seats you bought (vs my $6K)? Want to know how badly I got fleeced

And... by the way... your dad sounds a lot like mine. Must be that generation. He's a real go-getter. Living example that age is 90% attitude.

$3047 a person was what I got quoted for with fees and taxes per person sans AMEX for business class.

IIRC, the fare is comp'ed, but the fees are not, and the fees were about $800. All told, I think the difference was a couple hundred bucks.

The fare was $1,538 (that's the introductory fare on the A380 JFK-FRA route) plus $784.50 in fees, for a total of $2,322.50 per seat. Also of note is that I'm starting on the right coast, while you're starting on the left coast, so that probably accounts for at least some of the diff.
