I thought the S52 was a USDM Motor with only 240 hp?

I thought the euro S50B32 was the one with 321hp.

Someone correct me if im wrong.

I found a 96 328i at the local wreckers. the car is pretty smashed up. but he offered me the entire drive train and engine with as much stuff as i could grab for $1000.00..

I am thinking of doing this swap this winter. but i need some one to give the engine a look first, might be fubar...

Yea, I thought the US versions of the S50 and S52 were both rated at 240hp but the S52 had more torque. The euro versions were much more powerful.

yup, 5 speed. the car is pretty smashed up tho. what are your experiences when taking smashed cars as doners? they dont have the keys for it, it was used as a getaway car and crashed during the police chase...

Hahaha depends on how smashed up it is. A pic would help but if it was in a crash in a high speed chase I would think there would be problems with the engine but if there's no visible damage then I don't know

The S50B32 was rated at 316 DIN, or 310 SAE.

Even a light tap to the crank pulley can bend the crank... I would wait for one with very light front / front-side damage.

I must have over looked the front end being smashed in, if so, you are 100% correct there Mark-o Polo.

Yeah, I didn't go back and re-read it (and not going to), so I didn't remember if he did or not

Anything can fit with modifications...but it all depends on what you want.

I don't have the most experience, but I would say get an M 50 or M52. i am guessing that the M50 is probably pretty available and pretty well priced, with pretty much a bolt on approach???

what is your budget because all these guys obviously want you to put a S52 in there.

Easily. And $200-300 for an E36 ZF 5-speed.
