Can my wife drive?

Going to be pickup our ED M3 vert in June. Was wondering if anyone knew the answer...

Only my name is on the lease, but can my wife drive as well while we are in Europe? I think it would be cool for her to experience the car while we are in Europe.

Yes she can. Bring that @ welt, so that they can enter into system for insurance purpose.

Yes, The person does not have to be on the lease, just have her be with you when you do the paperwork so they can add her to the insurance info. My friend traveled with me and he was not on the ownership paperwork but he was covered.

Not an urgent thing, but I'd recommend that she gets an International Driver's Permit. Not sure where ya'll are driving, but just a recommendation.

At check in during the paperwork stage, she'll need to sign the insurance doc. No biggie.

My dad is coming with me for my Sept ED and I'm going to set him up on the insurance paperwork at the Welt. I am also having in get an Int'l Drivers' Permit (a 10 minute process at any AAA center).

A bigger issue may be actually letting your wife drive while you're in Germany. We'd planned on it, but the car was so much fun to drive that I never got around to tossing her the keys and saying, "Here, you drive it now." It's probably too strong to say she was angry -- but she was miffed. She's mentioned it several times since we got back. So I got a few bonus racko points subtracted for that move.

Standard German insurance allows anybody to drive the car. I would need to pull out my old paperwork (if I can still find it) with the insurance language on it but I would be very surprised if they did put a clause in that only registered drivers can drive the car.
I did ask on a pickup 4 years ago if my mother (German) can drive the car and they said yes. Police could care less about insurance, in Germany they will not check your insurance information during a stop, accident is obviously a different story.

That's exactly what I was told at the Welt last week, too. I was told, though, that each driver should sign the insurance "Green card."

In all seriousness, if I'm feeling generous I may let the sister drive it a bit. The wife doesn't drive MT.

Yet another advantage of ordering a MT. Seriously, this has saved me so many times when my irresponsible buddies bug me about letting them take my bimmers for a spin. I just point them to the clutch and the stick, and they all shut up immediately.

If the signatory to a BMW FS Lease dies, then the car goes back to BMW FS without penalty.

Where did you read that? I know Mercury did that a few years ago but didn't know BMW had the same policy.

Theres a little bit more to it. I checked with BMW FS and what happens is that the dealer takes the car back and sells it at auction and the estate has to pay the difference.
