Exclamation Xenon vs Halogen headlight housing???

I have a 01 525i with stock Xenons but the driver headlight is broken and want to replace it. i just wondered if i could use a non-xenon headlight (since they are much cheaper) and just add the xenon accessories from my own broken headlight????
mine also have the yellow rings. i don't know if they all do or not. they look like the one from the picture.

If you find the same model year part you will most likely be OK but you're better off finding a xenon equipped car in a scrapyard somewhere.

Do your homework before attempting this. I would think that the entire housing would be different, since the halogen takes H7 bulb and the Xenon the D2S. Plus you'd have to figure out how to connect the ballast.

Note the figure of the guy getting electrocuted inside the engine bay, where the sticker says don't mess with the lights. I'm just saying...

It is the same. The only difference between the two is the projector housing, and the self-leveling motor. If you swap over the projector and the self leveling motor, you will be fine. The halogen headlight even has the mounting points for the xenon ballast.

I had to do that to my car. Both of my headlights were busted, and the only headlights I could find at the time were halogen. I took them apart, swapped the projectors, and they work again.
