Right parking lights and signal stay on-2003 525
My 2003 525i began activating the right turn signal on its own. I drive down the road, and all of a sudden, the signal comes on and (without touching the turn signal) cannot be turned off. When I shut off the car, eventually, my right parking lights come on (front and back). Sounds like a grounding issue, but I would appreciate any of your good thoughts.

A friend of mine has an 01' 530 that was doing the same thing. We looked for the problem to no avail. He finally took it to the dealer. It was the Light Control Module (LCM). It cost him $950 to be replaced. The dealer has to (or gets to) program it, so there weren't many options in his situation.
I have heard of people replacing a chip in the LCM, but not sure if this would be an option for you or not...good luck |

Thanks for the advise, however since i have dismantle the LCM, i am just going to chk for any bad solder joint, I will clean the signal level next, hope this fix the problem. Is this the LCM ?
![]() I also wish to add that my parking light will turn on after I press the lock button at the key, I m aware of the parking light switch and it was at 'off' position. Last edited by macgy; 02-25-2013 at 04:52 AM. |

I have reinstall the LCM after soldering a few joint but once I turn the key on, right signal still blinking and I can't turn it off. Then I disconnect the connection at the signal level but the right signal light still blinking. i also discover that the parking light is behaving the same, once I turn the right parking light on, it cannot be switch off, similarly when i lock the car using key remote, the right light will turn on after a few minutes, however if I lock the car manually, it seems to be fine.
I will clean the level switch tomorrow and update. |

ok, cleaning d signal level doesn't work, it has to b the LCM, going to get a donor LCM from another car and try. it was suggested here that it wont work unless it was coded, well i will find out soon!

It should work without coding, but you will get the tampering dot in cluster.

First of all, the picture I posted is not a LCM, my mistake, after google for hours, I managed to locate the LCM, see the pic below, took a good look for any solder joint crack but cannot find any, I put it back and was looking for a replacement, found a discussion here that suggest recoding of used LCM is possible, http://www.odometer-correction.com/f...=1326&start=15,
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1621447 first you need to reset the LCM to zero using P.A Soft among others, I have a P.A Soft in my storeroom, their website seems to suggest the same! so I thought I should give that a try by getting a used LCM. The car was not in use for some time, I have decided to drive it to work this morning with the right signal light blinking all the way, my intention to visit the used part supplier this afternoon to get a replacement, however no luck, they can't find the exact model for my replacement. I drove the car back home and on the way, while I got stuck in a traffic jam, the problem stop ! then reapprear, anyway it went back to normal twice during my drive home, could it be the battery is a bit low ?, I m now charging the battery, anyway recoding of used LCM is possible and easy.

sorry to disappoint, I drove d car for a 3rd day, signal light still blinking in d morning, so I went out to get a used LCM at the local shop, on the way home however, the car is back to normal again and this time, she stays normal for as long as i get home ! If she is ok by the next tomorrow, I am going to return the used LCM for a refund.
