E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993.

Rear Body Pannel Queston.

I have a 1986 325e. I have rust through above the (L) tail light also aat the metal lip for the trunk gasket. I was about to weld and patch but my buddy convinced me that it would be too much work and I could purchase new rear panel for bout $130.00 for a 1990 e30 and get new larger lights (which in his opinion looks better)

I never noticed that my lights were smaller. However now I am very aware. That said, Since the light wrap into the rear quarter panel. I would think the larger lights of a 1990 would not fit a 1986 car due to the size of the rear quarter panel notch being too small on the 86 to accommodate a large tail light from a 1990 car.

patching it would be easier. cause swapping panels would be more work, plus youll have to do the other side too so they match.

Felt replacement would be better.

I planned to paint the entire car, Taking care of some light rust areas. Rust in the trunk was bad with a few rust-through holes. Because the holes were small I sand blasted and used JB weld epoxy to patch. The shop doing the paint job agreed to charge extra $100.00 to replace the entire rear panel and paint. Considering the cars age, I thought it prudent to just replace the panel. I would have been nice if I could have had the large tail lights by simply replacing the rear panel though.
