Comfort Access----Really Comfortable and Accessible?

I had a 2008 Opel in Europe with a similar functionality as the comfort access on the X3.
So you had to touch the handles for open and close (lock and unlock).
With the X3 though I find it not very practical as sometimes it doesn't work nor detect. You sometimes have to persist on it or do it a couple of times before you can lock it. The unlocking is OK. The locking is a bit challenging. Sometime when I try to lock it I hear a clicking sound at the rear right passenger side of the car somewhere where I thought that the car is trying to lock, but that door is open. So I check but the door was properly shut. I reopened the door and closed it back again, tried the locking and this time it actually locked. It happened a couple of times though.
Only when it beeps, it shows that it has been locked ofcourse.
Now I haven't had time to drive the car though since the day I picked it up... (), but I'll give it some more try before I'm certain...
Is this a problem or a typical comfort access thing?

It works reasonably well for me. The only times I noticed the issues you are describing is in the rain, when I had to press several times to lock it.

It is important that you place your finger directly on the ridges with one firm tap...if it does not get working every time, all the time, after you practice, get it looked at. CA works fine on every BMW I have driven. On purpose, they did not make it suoer sensitive.

Just wanted to add that mine doesnt work perfectly everytime either. I actually have to shist the key around in my pocket to sometimes unlock the car. Locking is rarely an issue.

While I am commenting I find that having to hit the ignition button twice to shut the car off is annoying.

Still loving the overall car experience though. It is a very well sorted out car and I am quite impressed.

We also experienced it at the dealership at the time of delivery that if you have both keys at your hand while unlocking the door, there is a sort of a mix up and the car doesn't respond.
(that was the delivery specialist's remark at least)...does that also make sense?
This seemed funny to me because I never had these kind of issues with my older car with the same feature?!

I don't think it is a weak battery or dueling keys. I only carry one key, btw. I think that it is a system that needs everything in line. I traded in a 2101 Volvo XC60 (bought in 2009) which had the same feature and it worked flawlessly.

No one asked but I will comment that the Volvo was an excellent car, fast, roomy, easy. I much prefer the X3!!! This X3 is very fast, roomy, rides well, handles great, has great seats, etc. I am just an electronic dinosaur so it is taking me awhile to get used to that end of the car.

I have to say mine seems to work 75% of the time. The other times I'm left standing outside my car like an idiot waiting for the door to unlock. I do think though that my cell phone may be interfering with the key fob which will cause it not to work properly. Hopefully it is just that.

BMW Comfort Access System / Start Button

I have a 2011 135i convertible with comfort access and its not reliable at all. It seems to get worse on hot days (I live in the Atlanta area). The button on the trunk is particularly bad and I usually end up having to use the button on the remote. So I've just started getting in the habit of pressing the trunk release button inside the car. But I do like the ability to put the top down using the remote (also part of the comfort access system). Would I let this flaw impact my decision to get another BMW? Hell-to-the-no! I love my car.

By the way, I don't know if this is a new thing, but if you push and hold the start button for a few seconds, it shuts everything off.

I find it ridiculous and a little irritating that you can not lock/unlock using the rear doors. My 2008 X5 had comfort access on all 4 doors. I usually put the kid in the car first, so I would like to unlock using the rear door. I also want to lock it after I take the kid out of the rear seat. I also open the rear door first to throw my bag and jacket in the rear seat. It is silly that I have to go back to the driver's door to lock the car. I think this was definitely a cost saving cut back.

The X5 CA costs $1000, the X3 only $500.

Precisely. On the lower models (X3, 1er, 3er, X1) the comfort access is cheaper but doesn't include rear doors. On the upper end models, it includes the rear doors but you pay more.

I have two key fobs...The comfort access works perfectly with the one key and yet not at all with the other...Is this the way it's supposed to be?

The comfort access which works is working 100% for all activities...I did have to change the batteries just recently.

It should work with both keys.
