E39 (1997 - 2003)

Fuel Leak?..

Okay my girlfriend drove my car.. came home and i smell fuel from the engine.. i opened it and saw that it was leaking through one of the lines on the top rear of the engine.. it seemed to be popped out and the plastic washer thingy is still there just a little crack from what i know its just a lock.. I popped it back in placed and felt a lock.. now its not leaking.. what can be the cause? anyone know? please help.. its a 540i.

The plastic washer is the release. You push it into the fitting, and it releases the clips that lock on to the collar. I would keep an eye on it for a while, and make sure it does not come off. Just curious, have you had any work done to the engine? It could have been that the tech might not have clipped it on all the way.

I had the engine rebuilt a while back.. Got the fuel pump changed about 2 months ago.. yea i figured it was that but the plastic washer is kind of crack can i change that?

Yea ive been driving the car normally yesterday just to test it and its fine.. today i drove it like i stole it =] and its still fine.. i clipped it back when the leak happened but im still trying to keep an eye on it..

You cannot change the plastic release. It comes with the hose as an assembly. If really does not do anything, even if it breaks off, a regular fuel line removal tool will take it off. BMW just integrated it to make technicians lives easier.

oOooh.. I see thanks bro.. so with the fuel line just popping out might be just loose? probably when the techs changed my fuel pump and tested everything they might have forgot to lock the line..

Once that fuel line clips in, it is very unlikely for it to come loose.
