Seriously Carbon Black or Sapphire Black?? Help appreciated guys!!

I ordered my X3 M Sport last night so question:

1. Would I still be able to change my color?
2. For those who have Carbon Black, if you had to choose between Deep Sea Blue to Sapphire Black, would you go with Deep Sea Blue everytime?

I've never seen carbon black in person but from what I can see in pictures I REALLY like it...and since it's unique to the Msport, me personally I'd get that over the other colors. Between the other two...I'd go with sapphire black...as EV put it really does show off well.

Sea Blue is VERY nice but it is the #1 hardest color to maintain. My friend is the body shop manager at my dealership and when i placed my order I originally wanted DSB and he would not let me order it b/c in his words, "the nicest the car will ever look is when it is on the showroom floor". The biggest thing he said is that swirls show up on DSB more than any color.

I just received my Carbon Black X3 yesterday (PDC). It is an amazing color. I can see that swirls might be an issue in the future but if you don't care about that then go CB. As for me, this is an SUV. I intend on pushing it to its limits and just having a good time with it. At the PDC, I drove an X3 and was told to press the gas all the way, stomp on the brake, and do a >90 degree turn. Tires were screeching but the X3 easily kept its posture as it sped through the turn and slalom track. It's an amazing car.

I was able to see all of the BMW color swatches at the Welt last September, so it was great to compare them all together (knew that Carbon Black was a M Sport 'exclusive'). Carbon Black is like the the black carbon paper used to write an invoice, meaning in the daylight there is a blue hue and at night it is black. Black Sapphire Metallic is also a great color (have this on my 2011 335is convertible), as in the daylight there is a metallic grey luster.

I pick-up my Carbon Black X3 M Sport this coming week at the PC and plan on taking a 'group' picture to compare Carbon Black and Black Sapphire Metallic when I return home next weekend (6/26) and will post.

Finally, its your individual preference to colors and how the interior leather/trim color will match.

I wouldn't worry about swirl marks or keeping pristine clean as a BMW is meant to be driven!

Didnt know Carbon Black was an M sport exclusive. That is a touch choice. Really like my Sapphire Black, but for the unique quality may go Carbon Black.

Would have to see ibiza's pix.

I think your choice depends on 2 factors:

1) exclusivity - will there be many M Sports in your vicinity? Around here a lot of BMWs are M Sports so CB is not that exclusive, but this is UK market

2) do you want some blue or not? I had a dark blue car recently so I'd rather have a change, you may have had a black car before but not blue, if so CB could be good for you

Saw the Carbon Black on an X5 at my local dealership. It is really nice but since it's so dark, it'll be hard to keep clean just like Sapphire Black. I've had a Z3 in SBM for 10 years and I'll never have a black car again. I do love the DSB but the X3 that I've ordered is in red!! Can't wait!

Go with the DSB. Not too many of them out there so you've got that going for you! I think it's a gorgeous color!

Just my opinion, YMMV!

I love my Vermillion Red, but of the three choices given, I would take DSB.

I have a 2010 550i in carbon black and it is a nice color, especially with the M package. I am thinking about an X3 in carbon black. I had BS years ago and it takes some work to keep both colors clean.

Here are pictures of 2011 X3 in Black Sapphire Metallic and Deep Blue Metallic. Was at the Zentrum today prior to my PCD in the AM. I will not 'officially' comment until I take delivery of my Carbon Black Metallic, but Black Sapphire Metallic looked better than Deep Blue Metallic; however, this is bias as my 2011 335is is Black Sapphire Metallic.

Make sure you get a printed copy of the change made. Dealer should have given you this after you made the change & had you sign off on it.

Congrats on the Carbon Black. Great color, as I picked mine up today. Attached are some photos (more will posted on the Carbon Black Thread shortly).

Color choice is such a personal thing, I suggest doing what I did. Go to a big dealer with a lot of product on the lot, and walk around and see the colors for yourself.

Ladies & Gentlemen,

Sorry, but I think dark colors are killing the car. The shoulder lines and the lines on the wheel flares need lighter colors. I ordered space gray.
