BMW 550i x ipod question

Hi all,
Just bought the 550i xdrive. Question on the ipod interface. When I plug in the ipod, which I leave in the car, everything shows up fine, but it seems that the ipod's shuffle feature automatically turns off. I'm a big fan of shuffling my play lists, rather than hearing the same songs in the same order. Any experience with this? Solutions? Thanks in advance.
