You should drive one with AVS (Active Variable Suspension) and VGRS (Variable Gear Ratio Steering) - standard on GS460s. On those models, the systems tightens up the active steering when you set the suspension and ect to sport mode, which makes he cornering feel significantly better.

But I say go for the F10. The 3GS will be outdated by a new model in less than a year. Plus the F10 has much better in-car tech, and the responsiveness only a turbo engine can deliver.

I just attended one of these events today and drove the 535 and E350 back to back. First time driving either model...my DD is a 335D so my first impressions was neither had much low end punch, but the 535 definitely blows away the E350 in both steering feel and passing/acceleration. Very impressed with how quickly the 535 gathers up speed compared to the E350. The only real criticism I could come up with the 535 during my brief drive is that the IP is just too plain...the numbers look like they were cheap glue-on decals. Otherwise I was very impressed with the 535 and hope BMW brings over one of the diesel models in the near future!

I went online and was able to pull up most of the dealers in my area (we have at least 6-7 within 50 mi) and while most of the desirable rides were already booked, I signed up anyway to get the $1000 as I'm in the market for a new ride.

Just did the drive today. Drove the 650, E, and S. 650 was very fun, and a big improvement over the old one. S was a huge boat with no road feel. To top it off, the ride and noise level were not what I was expecting. But it would be a comfortable cruiser, and it sure has presence.

E was also pretty disconnected from the road, but I was surprised by the power on the 6 cylinder. It's no 535, but it held its own. It has a pleasant interior and exterior. As a previous owner of a W211 E500, I came away disappointed. It was a very blah experience.

Sent from my HTC EVO using Bimmer App

I drove on Monday and received it today (Wednesday). Check your spam/junk folder to make sure it didn't get blocked from your inbox.

I am a BMW fan but I am starting to feel that the competition is catching up real fast. The new fiver is a bloated pig, and contrary to the experts, I am just not a fan of the new styling. I hated the Bangle style as much as the next man, but I think the new five leaves much to be desired.

With all that said, my wife loves the new fiver, she tells me it has caught up with Lexus, Audi and Mercedes in terms of styling and luxury, and that may be the problem, if the fiver is another part of pack, why not just buy the lowest cost option? I am close to jumping ship, help me, show me how I am wrong!

The Benz dealer also told me they have a $4000 discount to offer to BMW owners to switch brand.
Interesting post, you are saying the Lexus and MB are catching up to the F10, but in reality is that the F10 has become a Lexus or MB. Then you say the F10 is a bloated pig, excellent analogy.

The F10 lost BMW's DNA and is more of a Lexus or MB, you get it. You are not wrong, go with the MB.

Another way of saying this is that the F10 is now a true "luxury" car, not a driver's car and. It is the F10 that has caught up to the luxury feel of the Lexus and MB so it now has no distinguishing driving feel, that feature was always its competitive edge, now that is gone. Price and pure style preference of the buyer will now dictate. BMW has made themselves less competitive by becoming so similar to the others.

Drive the F10 again against the E350. One drive is not sufficient, IMO. My base F10 535i, being larger and heavier than my two previous 3 series, retains the BMW feel for me. It is nimble and quick, stays planted and on course, and we're talking base suspension. The "cloud like" isolated feel disappears after a few hundred miles of driving. The BMW suspension is a marvel, IMO, how it provides the smooth ride and taut cornering and handling (ie., no float).

Mark I think that is a good idea and I plan to drive both again.

I had a blast driving the 650i at the Team USA Drive event in Atlanta today. The Twinpower V8 is a monster, and when you drive it in a convertible where you can hear it and feel much closer to danger, the experience is just mind-blowing.

Most fun I've had in a car ever, and I've driven recent Aston Martin's, Maserati's, Porsche's, etc. The 650i beats them all.

I took my dad along, and he said he thought I should ditch the 550i and just pick up a 650i. But I still think the 550i is better for day-to-day speeding since its less conspicuous to the patrolling tax collectors, especially once I give it the 9500ci, V1 and Laser Interceptor upgrades.

I loved driving the 550xi when I had the chance. I know exactly what everyone is saying about the steering feel though. I agree that it is on the delicate side now, but it weights up nicely with speed. The "problem" seems to be solved a bit with the addition of the M package. What'd everyone think of their test drives anyway?
