BMW X5 2002 3.0L E53 Fuel tank vent valve

Hi All:
The engine service light is on and the code shows that it is PO444. I replace the gas cap but it does no good. I need to replace the Fuel tank vent valve. Can anybody show me with the pictures where it is located and the procedure how to replace it? Thank a lot

2002 X5 3.0L fuel tank vent (breather) valve

Hi Zulu95:

Thank for the diagram but it does not help much. The part number for Fuel Tank Vent (Breather) Valve is 13901433603 and I can not find this number anywhere in the diagram sent by you.
Could you find another diagram and the procedure with the pictures DIY ? Thank a lot

Peter

Try searching Realoem. All the parts diagrams are there and it is a great resource for future reference. You may need to buy a Bently Manual for the DIY as I don't know if any articles are available.

Service Engine soon light

You might want to go to an auto parts store to read the code there is a device that has a known fail that is in the front of a 4.4 motor on the drivers side or left side its easy to replace and its harder to locate and to remove and can be a stinker to replace but is real basic, I think its an evaporitive valve of some sort this could be the same part that you are speaking about!!!

11721707619 VALVE, this may be the part number

Not sire where it is, same car as you. Just replaced mine, got part at dealer, 92 bucks. My indie did the work in 20 mins charged 40 bucks. Said you had to remove the rear seat to get to it.

My X5 2001 4.4l Gas Tank Will Not Fill Up.....PLEASE HELP!!

Please can someone help me...... I have a 2001 4.4l x5 and I can only fill up my gas tank less then half. It stops at the same place each time. Here is what I have done:

1- tried over 3 different gas stations
2- tried turning the gas nozel up, down, side to side, and pulling out the nozel alittle here and there.
3- I am not getting any codes or anything of that nature also the x5 runs fine.
4- Also I put some gas cleaner (one of those small bottles from adv auto)

*Could the breather fuel vent in front of the driver side engine block be bad and cause this issue? (Please note I'm not getting any error codes or anything like that)

This is killing me I'm searching the Internet and can not find a resolution. I'm praying that someone can tell me where to look or any ideas.

Thanks.

Educlass, it might be your fuel level sender(s). One or both may be bad allowing the gage to only go up to 1/2 tank. Had you considered this? If you want to take the trouble to see, pack a small gas can full of gas with you, fill the tank and reset the trip odometer. Keep driving it past empty to say 375 miles and if it never stalls, then do a fill up. If you put in more than the usual amount then you will know that it is the fuel level sender. The tank has two fuel level senders. I'm not sure about the 2001 models; but the E70 models will drive the gage to empty and turn on the check engine light if one of the senders goes bad. The fuel tank has an FLVV (Fill Level Vent Valve) that causes the pump nozzle to shut off when the tank reaches the full level. Can't really think of a failure mode that would cause the FLVV to shut off at half a tank. If one fuel level sender has gone bad, however, then it is possible that the gage will not read above half a tank.

My mileage pixel is out so I can't see the mileage driven. But I will test the gas gauge run the gas out and see if the car still runs. I will update with results.
